Son,s getting older, soon he,ll start slipping away to start his adult life.Love spendin time with him so out of sheer desperation (and we both love game meat) we got our licence,s. Drawn for two moose in group hunt.
Late season in MU 5-13, So of course i,m real excited and gearing up on a budget to go.Now i,m starting to hear that there,s some things goin on in the area like exploding wolf populations, native concerns and maybe November,s just too damn late in the season.
Now i don,t give a rat,s ass if i get anything on this trip but i would like it to be memorable for the Lad.
All i,m asking for is any information and or advice you folks might have.
Thanks for your consideration. ZONE C

You want a good trip, so that is what I would concentrate on.
I have been on some very memorable trips in November. It will be cold, with quite a variance of what we mean by cold. So prepare for it. For a good trip in November a wall tent with wood stove is a must. Oh I know, a good camper of some type with a good supply of propane will keep you comfy warm and you can cook and eat in comfort.
But it will not be a memorable hunting trip that you and your son will cherrish!
I couldn't begin to count how many cold weather trips I have been on, living in a tent with a stove, nor could I even count how many such trips I have taken my sons on.
That exhilerating feeling of a cold tent warming up in the morning after the fire is lit, is something that will never be erased from your sons memory. And the wonderful aroma of coffee brewing and bacon frying will be implanted in his memory as if it were with indelible ink.
A 12 x 16 foot tent with a stove pipe hole, three foot walls and no floor is about ideal for the two of you. Cut spruce boughs for a floor and mattress to sleep on. Obtain the smallest little wood stove you can get.
Have warm enough sleeping bags that no heat from the stove will be required for a comfortable nights sleep, even when the water in the pail freezes so hard that it is difficult to break in the morning.
One trip I'll tell about here is when they used to have a bull moose hunt in Wells Gray Park, between Christmas and New Years. An eleven year old son and I shovelled a foot of snow from the ground and set up such a tent as descrbed and lived very comfortable for several days. We have nothing but good memories from that trip.
I haven't been to the 5-13 area since all the logging of the bug killed pine. But there must be some virgin areas left.
At one time it was a nice area around the north and west of One Eye Lake, But that may be too civilized now.
Looking again at the recreational atlas, I would go north east from Alexis Creek for about 20 plus KM, then north west on the major road, and keep right at the junctions. But play it by ear. Find a creek to camp by for water. You do what you want, but in all the trps I have made in wilderness areas I have never taken even drinking water with us.

Thanks for your reply H4831, Goin with a friend who has a wall tent with stove. We have a couple of army surplus sleeping bags and i bought the Lad some 1000 gm thinsulate boots(still saving for mine).I find the sleeping bags uncomfortable but at least we,ll be warm.
Your old hunting pictures you,ve posted are fantastic, thanks for sharing them.
Happy trails.
