In Klaus - Peter Honig's book "A History of the World's 9mm Pistols and Ammunition" he describes a .177 cal. CO2 conversion kit for the 1911. Now, I know that you can buy Colt 1911 semi auto pellet guns, but this is a conversion kit much like the .22 kits. The setup that Honig describes is a single shot introduced by the German company of Blaser in 1968. He does not state for how long it was produced, and it is not mentioned on the company's web site.
The kit consists of a slide, barrel and CO2 valve system. The gas cylinder resides in the slide and the whole system is kept in place by a bolting arrangement that fits through the magazine well. It has a 140 mm barrel and adjustable sights. Honig states that at 7 meters, groups of 1 to 1.2 cm. were attainable. Velocities of about 400 fps. were measured, typical of CO2 pistols.
Honig intimates, but does not state that similar systems were available from other manufacturers.
I like the 1911, and have one in .45 ACP along with a .22 conversion kit. I am also a fan of earlier Blaser products which have great quality for the price. I would love to find this kit.
Has anyone ever seen this conversion, made by Blaser or anyone else? Dare I ask if anyone has one or has shot one?
The thought of practicing in the basement with my 1911, my grips and trigger, is very appealing. Would it be legal to take my pistol, put the CO2 kit on it and take it out to the farm?
Any info on 1911 CO2 conversion systems (as opposed to 1911 pellet guns purchased whole) will be very much appreciated.
