GP 100 finally

Thanks everyone, this is my first revolver and like it just the way it is.........well maybe the Hogue wood grips............new front fiber sight...........new front red ramp..............speed loaders.........wolfe spring kit.........wife is gonna kill me!!!
Actually, what speed loader brand should I be looking for?

Congrats on your first revolver! I'll bet it won't be your last. When I rediscovered revolvers (a couple years ago) I have since bought a few more and sold some semi's.
IMO...put a couple hundred rnds thru it before you start changing things.

Just got myself a Sp101 in .22lr, and I am impressed so far.

Going to the range in a dew minutes to make and feel like a little kid I'm so excited.

Waited over 2 years for this thing...

Funny how even after shooting big bore magnums a puny little 22lr revolver can get grown men/women all excited. I felt the same way when I recently picked up a Ruger Bearcat.
Now I gotta have a DA/SA 22lr revolver:)

Thanks Armored Metal

You are welcome.

However, I should have given you more details but it was 0130Hrs and I had my eyes half shut, while giving a bottle to my 7 month old. So I suggest you get Safariland speedloaders over HKS because they are waaaay better.

With the Safariland speedloaders, your rounds are held tightly and stay straight when you insert them into the cylinder. Once you're in, you push firmly and your cartridges are released. As for the HKS speedloaders, they don't hold the cartidges as tight. You sometimes have to wiggle the speedloader to align it with the cylinder. Once you're in, you have to turn the knob to release the rounds.

Back when I was issued a revolver at work, I only used Safariland speedloaders (bought myself). During annual qualifications, I would laugh to myself watching my co-workers struggle with their issued HKS speedloaders and totally F***-up their reloads.

Try them both before buying if you can and judge for yourself.

Thanks, I will take your word for it. How much are they usually? Also I spent lots of time reading on CGN early in the morning as our youngest boy is almost 18 months now.

Could'nt say. I've had mine for 15 years and I don't remember how much I paid for them. Shop around, I know Brownells used to have the basic model and the competition ones.

I haven't tried Safariland but they do look alot slicker - I picked up a 3 pack of HKS because they were inexpensive to get started. They do take a bit of getting used to but as long as you line up a cylinder flute with your finger and use muscle memory you can get them in quick.. The only advantage the HKS has is that the rounds won't fall out if the speedloaders were to be left in your pocket (useless feature when we can't carry in Canada).. I'm going to try Safariland at some point but the HKS work for me for now as I believe I got 3 for the price of 1 safariland speedloader back when I was looking.

When you do get Safariland, you will realize you wasted the price of one buying three HKS. I got rid of my 586 some years ago (mistake, I know) but I still remember the way the Safariland speedloader would shoot cartridges into the cylinder. I could reload the wheelgun at least as quickly as the best of my autos.

Kind of big, though.

Now you've piqued my interest.. I may just have to try some safariland loaders!

Even the die hard S&W fans usually end up buying a GP100 out of curiosity just to compare. Mine is 6" blued and I have no regrets. It's a keeper forever for the price I paid new. Anything that makes me look like a good shooter is a keeper. Love it, shoot it plenty, and need to start reloading for it. It is a shame to see round counts on these in the low hundreds. Like my P220 .45 ACP, just keep shooting and enjoying what you have. One is enough for me though as my S&W's have what I like in ergonomics. I can't say how much I like the wide fat hammer and crisp break of the hammer in single action on the S&W. The GP100 is almost there but not quite. Regardless, everyone has gotta own one just to see what all the fuss is about. I am pleased, very pleased with the GP100. My cylinder drag line is getting pretty deep.

Well no pictures yet, but just finished cleaning and oiling it up. Really happy with the metal finishing as in no burrs etc anywhere, but the bluing is only ok. What I am really happy with is the trigger, it is much, much better than I was expecting. Heavy smooth DA (but smooth) and great crisp SA pull, no creep or squish at all. Definitely not like my Shadow, but very good nonetheless. Can't wait to shoot it!
