Looking at getting a fiber front, so Hi viz or Williams firesight. What is better? Any site sponsors have them? Thanks
Thought about painting it as well to keep it more rugged.
I have 2 GP100s - the 6" and 4.2". My 4.2" wears Meprolight night sights, and my 6" currently has a front FO. For accuracy, I much prefer the night sights. The FO is easy to pick up, but harder to be accurate with in my experience, as it's essentially a fuzzy glowing ball. In my estimation, the FO is better suited for quick target acquisition/speed, whereas anything more traditional, like the squared-off night sights (notwithstanding the tritium inserts which essentially turn into white-dots under the light of the range or during the day) allows for a little better precision. Both options work far better for me than the original black-on-black factory sights.
In my experience, the HiViz FO was a quick drop-in installation - push the plunger, remove old sight, drop in new sight, done.
The Meprolight front night sight needed a bit of filing to be able to coax it into place however (was built with juuust a bit too much material and needed to be shortened a bit to be able to fit in the dovetail).
Geo, the Meprolight, can just the front be used with the factory rear? My Shadow of course is black rear fiber front and like it, but my white dot Kadet kit seems easier for aiming small, as you mentioned.
Having both the Firesight and the HiViz for the GP, I would say you cant go wrong with either. Altho the Williams sight is better constructed, the option of changing light pipes on the HiViz is very appealing. Neither one is overly impressive if at an indoor range, but if you shoot outdoors, the difference is incredible.

I bought some paint today to try out.
Clean with alcohol
Base of white
Either neon green or neon orange
Nail polish clear
Buff the shine off carefully.
I like the fact that it won't ever break but if it sucks I will buy a fiber sight.
Oh I will take pics when it's done.
I filed my front sight to have a flat face and painted it white.
For me i dont find fiber optics work that well unless im outside.
IMHO They are useless on the indoor range.
Lead hammer, here are a couple of pictures, I took 5 photos and cant get the sight to come in right but you get the idea

Got the orange on, not perfect but pretty good and nice and bright, you can see it shine off the top of the barrel in the one photo. Gotta quit using crappy iPhone 4 camera as it's much brighter in person.
