Anyone know what if any handgun competitions around Grande Prairie and area, there is?
I am fairly new to handguns but would like to watch/try some competing to improve my skills.

There is some IDPA in the area
Next spring I was thinking of trying to get IPSC started in the area
Not sure how that will work with work scheduals

IDPA in GP died several years ago. (in fact, it never really got off the ground)

Similarly, someone tried to get IPSC going in GP before that and the results were even worse.

It seems to me the handgunners in that region of Alberta prefer to just hire out of town 'training' once or twice a year and don't have the motivation (nor the courage) to put their skills to the test in organized and recognized competition.

Sounds to me like you just volunteered to get it going.

From the sounds of it, you're just what the region needs to get motivated and courageous.

according to the locals there will be another black badge course in October in Fort St John B.C.

they are fairly active in Action Shooting and usually run an *DPA/IPSC night every tuesday... this summer was a bit slow as they had staffing issues, but they are back shooting as of last night, in the winter they shoot indoors.

Anyone from Alberta who wants to take a BB course in BC must get the permission of the Alberta Section Coordinator prior to taking the course. this is true for anyone wanting to take a BB course out of province.

Gracefull; there is a group that shoots on the first and third night of the month at the Wapiti Shooters club. They work on improving skills in an IDPA type setting. Most of the guys are down to earth and enjoy shooting.

Think people are finding time to commit to IPSC to be an issue.

I have a badge. Haven't done anything with it since '97.

This is why I quit shooting IPSC in the 80s, I do not see the need to ask anyone's permission to take a course. IPSC is IPSC no matter where the course is taken, but some people just have throw more rules at people.

hey! i am a recent handgunner too aprox a year and a half, dont even know what the differant comps, styles, classes there are, but i would love to watch some to get the feel, i live in dawson and there is nothing organized here, infact its kinda rare to even see more hand gun shooters there at all!
a trip up to fsj would be cool, wheres the club? and whats it called? when are the comps/coarses? someone from fsj wanna chime in or pm me?
do i need an invite to attend or are visitors/spectators welcome?

There is a group that shoots on Tuesday nights ( I think....) in Ft. St. John.

every tuesday night 6pm till approx 8 (ouside) or 9pm (inside)

right now the guys are doing some 3 gun stuff before the weather turns bad and we move inside.

gate is dummylocked from 6pm till we leave as it is a normal range closed day.

There are guys in Dawson Creek that shoot IPSC, we had a poster up in Corlans sporting goods for over two months asking for people to come out and shoot. We got nothing. So we will try again in the spring.
