Gradiant Leave Design Sighting

I have never used a Gradiant Leaf type of rear sight. How does it work? I know that in the "down" position (i.e. not raised) it is used as per norm. But if I put it verticle and adjust the sliding sight, how do I look down the sight? What should I be seeing as I aim?

I believe he's refering to his SVT-40.

Well, there is no vertical notch on the SVT40, as far asI know. Swede 96's have this sort of thing, it's just for the longer ranges.
