If the Lieberals were to get in again and there was to be a grandfather clause, how does this generally work? Do you just get to keep the ones you have, or can you buy more etc?

Present grandfathering provisions allow you to acquire more of the same class or sell to others similarly grandfathered.

As a note, as the individual is grandfathered businesses may only take prohibed items on consignment from such individuals.

so theoretically, would one have to actually own firearms, or would just having a PAL be good enough to allow for future purchases?

If they were to write a grandfathering clause for all handguns you would need to own a registered handgun at the time of the ban to be included.

Since they are not going to have a grandfathering clause if you are stuck in a non-opt out province I would hold onto my guns for as long as they exstend amnisty. The liberals say five years so there will be at least one election during that time.

I heard on the radio this morning that the RCMP started another probe into missing money and if I remember right it as from a company that was set up by Paul Martin's chief aide while he was the Finance Minister. Maybe there won't be another Lieberal government elected just yet.

Glad I live in one of the opt out provinces.
No you don't. There will be no opt out provinces because The Canadian Charter of rights does not allow for something to be a criminal act in one part and not a criminal act in another. The lieberals have only suggested it now to trick some people into not acting against them. If they start this legislation, there will be no provincial opt out option.

As I stated before, "Opt out" means that the feds will take the responsibility of going after the goods instead of provincial resources (such as the OPP) doing the dirty work.
