i've never read a wilbur smith book before but i just finished Assegai, took me about 3 days. every firearm featured in the book is well researched, especially the SMLE in severl important scenes, including an intense lion kill from point blank range by teddy. R's son. not sure if any members have read this book, its his latest but i could hardly put it down, immensely entertaining. his favorite rifle by far is the Holland and Holland .470 Nitro Express he gets near the beginning after bedding the dead owners widow! the indiscriminate killing of animals during a few scenes was a little bit of a downer, but i don't think it was out of line with the thinking of the time. just before world war one actually. check it out!
