Great pictures and tells you everything you wanted to know about these beautiful guns.
Made me go out and buy an early 2nd generation COLT SAA and a Ruger Super Blackhawk.
It was published in 2005 and is available at both Chapters and Amazon.

What are some of your favourite gun books?

"Pet Loads" by Ken Waters - it is a combination of history and reference, reprints of articles he wrote for Handloader magazine.

Useful if you are reloading and interesting even if you are not.

It is the size of a Toronto phone book so maybe not something to take in your carry on bag.

Tactical Pistol Shooting: Your guide to tactics that work by Erik Lawrence and Mike Pannone.

Awesome read that covers basics, fundamentals, to advance shooting mechanics. Covers Dynamic and static operations.

check it out: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/1440204365/ref=oss_product

Big bore sixguns by Taffin is a most too, Elmer Keith books were a lot of fun, stories dating from an other era, and his comments on all the development of the magnum caliber. With winter on us, it is a good time too take time to read somme nice books on our hobby.

My all time favorite:D and I have a number of his books. I've posted this previously but in the early 70's a buddy and I put the camper on my truck and headed to Salmon Idaho where we spent an interesting day with him.

A couple of other writers from that same era that are good is Jack o'Connor and Skeeter Skelton.

UPDATE:
I was just informed by that same buddy that Taffin has fairly recently suffered a major heart attack.

If I had to choose, it would be the following three:

1. "Understanding firearm ballistics" by Robert Rinker.
2. "Tactical Pistol Marksmanship" by Gabe Suarez.
3. "Ultimate Sniper" by John L. Plaster.

Money well spent.

"Cooper on Handguns",by Jeff Cooper is a classic. It was published in 1974 and I remember reading it as a kid, really got me interested in handguns. This book really established the 1911.

I finally tracked down a copy a few years ago which cost me $100!,however I see them now going for up to $250 a copy!!

I also have "sixguns",by Elmer Keith, another classic IMO

I also picked up a signed copy of "no second place winner",by Bill Jordan,at a recent gun show.

I dont think that there are equivalent great gun writers these days like these guys were!

  1. The Art of the Rifle by Jeff Cooper
  2. Dangerous Game Rifles by Terry Wieland
  3. Mauser Military Rifles of the World by Robert Ball
  4. Bolt Action Rifles by Frank de Haas and Dr. Wayne van Zwoll
  5. Rifles of the World by John Walter
  6. Testing the War Weapons by Timothy John Mullin

Colt Revolvers

"The Colt Double Action Revolvers, A Shop Manual Vol I & Vol II" by Jerry Kuhnhausen are excellent manuals.
They tell you not only how to repair Colt revolvers, but have a very useful section on how to examine one to see if it has any problems. I believe that he has written similar manuals for S&W and 1911s.

I just bought on for like $22 plus $13 shipping out of Germany. There are a few others at www.abebooks.com. Great book store for used books.

Another interesting read on my shelf:D, Ed McGivern's book of Fast and Fancy Revolver Shooting.
Yes Sixguns by Keith, quickly followed my ^^Ed McGivern's book^^.
Also Jim Cirillo's Tales of the Stakeout Squad (NYPD) is awesome reading material.
Capstick's series is great too, African hunting stories. (one that comes to mind was his "war" with the baboons in cultivated orchards)
Ultimate Sniper isn't too bad for starters, but for the average recreational/competitive shooter, Precision Shooting at 1000 yards is a far better purchase with many rifle disciplines covered IMHO.
