Heres my new 1911 holster for my railed sig 1911 traditional I received from soleycanadian holsters aka rollie100 here on cgn. I was so happy with the finished product I told Tim I would do a short review on here.
I'll start off by saying, in no way, shape, or form, am I affiliated with SoleyCanadian. Im just an extremely happy customer who wanted to share his product with the community. Especially considering the ever growing popularity in kydex holsters, and the exceedingly growing wait times for products from some of the larger names in kydex.
Before I actually get to the product, I have to say, dealing with Tim was nothing but a pleasure and about as close to the definition of "a breeze" as one can receive from a manufacturer. After countless PM's over CGN and 29 sent emails, Tim was still there to confirm every detail, and answer my every question; and trust me folks, I tend to be a royal pain in the @ss. Excellent customer service always gets a mention in my books.
On to the holster.
I can't compare this thing to other brands of kydex like raven concealment, bravo concealment, or any others, but I can say this holster was made with quality in mind. All of the edges have been smoothed out, the rivets are solid, the mold is clean, and the belt loops are locked on perfectly. All around, a very well made holster. The retention is right in the sweet spot. The gun stays in when holstered, as well as when upside down, but doesnt require a whole lot of excessive force to remove it from the holster.
The Specs:
Its made of .093 FDE kydex, with a full sweatsheild, open bottom, and a 10 degree cant.
I wasnt sure which thickness to go with, but Tim assured me the .093 would work great, especially when you take into account that the 1911 is a pig in terms of weight. The way tim did the 10 degree cant is my favorite part of the holster. Instead of permanently molding the holster at 10 degrees, the belt loops are mounted in an offset manor as to give you the options of 0 to 15 degrees of cant. Once again, something I was hesitant about, but Tim assured me would be a good idea.
There is one thing that one may look at as a negative. Although it doesnt phase me, there are some who look at their firearms as a crown jewel.
So ill make this clear, this may be a handmade product, but it is not made with the exact firearm your holding right now.
There is some scuffing from the kydex where tight spots exist. With a light rub, it does come off, and does not leave a scratch.
If this is something thats going to get your panties in a wad, your probably someone who buys guns to admire on a wall, and not one who uses them. If your one of these people, I make this suggestion....sell your holsters, and buy a pretty display case, your gun is a tool, not a jewel.
Before
After a very light rub.
The Mag Holders:
I ordered a single mag, as well as a double mag and both are equally as well made as the holster. Retention on a full mag is good, although they will slowly slide out when upside down, but lets be honest Im not going to be repelling inverted to silently assasinate a terrorist leader. I did jump up and down with them on my belt, and nothing came out of place. I should mention that the double mag holder does have an adjustable retention screw, although ive yet to adjust it.
Once again, the mag holders too have the adjustable cant belt loops as pictured above, although I personally will probably just leave them at 0 degrees.
And finally, just because its awesome. I received a dip can holster aswell.
Its pretty simple, it holds a tin of chew. It is equally comparable to the holster and mag holders, just a bit more simple. The main reason I wanted one of these is to test the durability of the kydex. I work in a pretty harsh enviroment where most of my personal work wear gets beat to living hell, so it will be nice to see how well this thing holds up.
In conclusion, I give SolelyCanadian a 10/10 performance. Not only was dealing with Tim flawless, but his product functions great, and looks awesome as well. Im happy to support a small canadian business, especially when their price point in my oppinion is great. Im not going to list his prices, but I believe they are very affordable for the quality you get. Even better, the turn around time wasnt some horrid 7 month ordeal like some others have. If memory serves me correctly, I had my holster in hand in just a little over a week. Best of yet, I cannot find a single thing I dislike about any of these items. As some may say, the scuffing and the blue marks inside the holster are a negative aspect in terms of the product, but if thats you, go trade your pistol in for a malibu stacy doll collection. If your in the market for a new kydex holster, I will strongly recommend SoleyCanadian as your next stop. Im every bit confident you'll be happy with the product as I am.
Thank you for the holster Tim, I tip my hat to you.
