Dad and I drove all the way up to Fort McMurray, then flew another 80 miles or so North West to Sand Lake in the Birch Mountains. We flew in on Sept 25th, and by the 28th, we were both tagged out. Saw lots of cows, fishing was great!!! We had a deep freezer in the back of the truck and a generator...worked out real good (freezer was packed full). Talk about a loooonnnnnggg drive though. 8500km back and forth:runaway: Dad shot his with a 9.3x66 and I used my 338 Lapua.

congrats, towing a freezer and generater would be one nice way to hunt and fish your way across the country. did you stop in saskatchewan to fill any free space in the freezer with birds?

Wow, drove all the way from Montreal!! In case I ever attempt it... how long (days) did the driving take??

Was that crown land you were on?

Sorry for all the questions... but I would love to plan something like that for next year with the old man!

I'd be interested in getting those answers too... :D

Figure about 43-44 hours of actual driving time each way.
It was on crown land, and a guided hunt.

We also had Wolf and bear tags, but did not see any.

Congratulations on the success, lots of meat to keep you going all winter.

Question...is there no moose to hunt in Quebec? Or is it very hard to get a license? That's a long way to go for moose.

It looks like you had a great time, but living in Ft McMurray I can't believe you guys drove 8500 km's roundtrip to hunt moose up there. The moose hunting in NW Alberta is dramatically better than where you guys were.

WOW , I think if it was me i would keep on going to the yukon or alaska. That trip must have cost you a $hit load. Can't be much more to go to the yukon. But who am I to judge I went all the way to Virginia to shoot turkeys!!! congrats on the moose adventure either way.
