I think the first part of your comment has some validity, but I also think that the firearms community is starting to make enough noise that politicians are starting to listen.

The pathological Canadian apathy and eternal pessimism are 2 constants that keep dragging us down.

The petitions got the point across to the Liberals that there are a lot of gun owners paying attention to what they do and they threw us a bone.

Harper didn't repeal the un marking legislation or the c68 firearms act because he wanted to hold them over our heads as extortion for our support.
If we stayed obedient little puppies we'd get fed more scraps from the table a little bit at a time.
