Does anyone have any experience with one of these? The website talks about potential dings and dents that do not affect function but at the same time you cannot see the individual guns to make your own choice. Are they worth putting your trust in their gunsmithing to try one?

If I wanted a 12ga double with short barrels and no chokes the price isn't bad - pretty much what you'd pay for a decent condition SxS without the mods.

I'd be tempted to buy a full length SxS from them, or Intersurplus, or Frontier, and doing the chop myself for the experience, but if you didn't want to do the work then it seems like a reasonable deal to me.

I did enquire by email and was told that hand selection wasn’t an option…I may just take a chance anyway but it would be nice to see pics of the ones they have (everyone has their own taste in brands and esthetics etc.)

I'm not too impressed with the idea of buying a random gun of unknown brand out of an assorted pile and relying upon someone else's choice. I put more consideration into choosing a tomato or a cantalope in the grocery store than they seem to expect you to do when buying one of these guns.

There are always lots of older SxS shotguns in the EE; with a little bit of careful shopping you can probably find one that is close to your idea of perfection, rather than the next one in the pile of pre-made coachguns online. If you are willing to wait you can likely get a brand that you want, select straight- or pistol-grip, extractor/ejector, single/double trigger, etc. Most of the older less expensive guns will of course be double trigger extractor guns, but there are lost of other variables, up to and including some really beautiful walnut versus plain boards.

The "gunsmithing" that goes into this project is about as basic as it gets. Cut off, square and de-burr barrels to the legal length of your choice...drill/tap for a new bead (or sights...or even a rail!)...maybe cold blue the cut ends...and fill the barrel gap with JB Weld or something similar. Do you have some simple hand tools? Can you tie your shoes? Then you can do this job, and the end result will be infinitely more satisfying to own and use than just saying "I'll take one of those!" online. :)

One of my favourite backyard fun guns:

Adjustable iron sights...22-inch tubes...auto-safety disabled...much nicer walnut than the pic suggests...double triggers and extractors...the Poor Man's Double Rifle. Perfect for keeping the small but aggressive Boreal Elephants out of the garden. :)

I've thought about replacing the hard butt plate with a rubber one, but I've been shooting it this way for many years and many hundreds of rounds, so...not exactly a desperate need. :)

Hand selection might not be an option but you might be able to make a few specifics known - eg I'm not a big fan of straight grips, so if I was to buy one I'd ask if they can ensure I don't get a straight grip one. If they say no to that, I would walk.

If you want a good 12 gauge coach gun, then save yourself some grief and just buy a Boito.

Reliable has the 20" barrel model (with fiberglass stock) for $549.99 and the 14" barrel model for $579.99.

They're both built very strong. You literally cannot legally cut a barrel down to 14", so it's a win on that alone.

As of this post, there are two left in stock for each of them.

Fixed IC/mod is nice, but that plastic furniture on a SxS is gross.
For crying out loud, It's a coach gun meant for rough duty.......not an English sporter meant for hunting pheasant.

I much prefer the synthetic stocks over the wood ones. I'd like it if the 14" barreled versions had them, too.

I always see ads for those used SxS's that mention cracks around their tangs.

I don't think that I'll be having that problem with my synthetic stock.

Cool. I don't like plastic on a double barrel shotgun. God forbid people be allowed to have an opinion.

I'd bet that the vast majority of these coach guns...whether DIY jobs or store-bought...never see any kind of "duty", rough or otherwise. If you're planning on fighting off invading American troops with your Boito coach gun, sure, the plastic will be fine. Good luck with that.

My coachgun...and I believe most others...are fun guns for behind the barn practice shooting, maybe some grouse hunting, maybe slugs for deer if you are lucky and get a good one. Strictly entertainment, so using a gun that you like the look and the feel of is an important facet of the enjoyment.

Indeed. God has forbidden it.

You are not allowed to have an opinion. Ever.

Total subservience and acquiescence is the rule of divine law.

Meanwhile, I have to see if I can swap out the wood stock on my 14" Boito with a synthetic one.

It would look so badass! If only it had a brass bead sight.

I dont know, those boito shotguns don't do it for me. Do they have a greener cross bolt or at least 3 bites and side clips with engraving and replaceable hing pin, have well handles wood for a smooth feeling and an action with some shape a d style to it. Built to copy some of the finest guns out there. And what's with the fore stock? Did they forget to shape it, still looks like a 2x4
