LOL let's hope you never have to test it
I thought SFRC only sold these to LEO's, Military, and security. Sure doesn't sound like it is being used by one out and about with ones girlfriend. If only those folks can buy them, then they should only be able to use them while on active duty. If not, then the rest of us slobs should be able to protect ourselves and loved ones with them too.
i think it was one of the old surplus vests that are no longer safe to use for ballistic protection, but more as a novelty item. I hope that the OP is aware of that if it is in fact one of the "surplus vests".
Wouldnt the bullet proof vest protect you better if you put it on your girfriend and got her to jump in front of you.......
..these will still stop what they're rated for. i split a package of 3 with a buddy and put some rounds into the 3rd vest to see. it stopped two 124 grain 9mm rounds. you're good to go.

Are you willing to bet your life on it?
They are sold as surplus after the expiry date comes to pass. Kevlar begins to break down after 5 years.

Kevlar vests do not "expire" like a food item, this is a common myth
Most current production vests under the new NIJ6 standards are rated for 5-7 years out of the factory. Testing has shown vests generally last 20-25 years with regular use as long as they are maintained properly (proper storage, cleaning, etc) before they degrade to a point where they pose a significant threat. Kevlar does not break down, decompose, expire, etc. The fibers merely loosen up with improper use/storage.
The expiry date put on vests out of the factory are in place for liability reasons by the legal teams of these companies to protect them from lawsuit...as the probability of a vest not being maintained properly, or compounded periods of mis-use obviously add up with age
on the legal standpoint, In Ontario it is completely legal to possess and wear body armour as long as you are not found committing an offence while wearing it.
Good to know. So... are the ones in question surplus (apparently should only be surplus if they were neglected, so they should be worthless) or are they the current ones?
