Well here we are, almost the middle of December, and we haven't lost a single day of shooting due to weather. I did run the snowblower today, to clean the stations and walkways, but it was sunny and 0. On average we lose 5-6 days due to cold. but so far so good.

We've lost a couple of days south of Calgary, we had a small but nasty blizzard in October and another at the end of last week. The visibility at the Calgary airport was 1/4 mile in heavy snow when I left on Friday morning... not really nice shooting weather. Other than that the temperatures have been moderate but windy lots of days.

You have snow in Camrose? Haven't seen a drop fall here in Lloyd in a month and there is none on the ground.

We got a couple of inches of heavy, wet snow late last week. Before that, the ground was bare. We shoot all year, temperature permitting, so we keep a snowblower in the high house.

Shot South Okanagan on Sunday,+3 no wind wow last year 12 inches of snow -10 yup I'll take it.

Mister stubblejumper:

In the area around Camrose, have you noticed any lazy assed ducks and geese kind of not heading south yet? I am asking this question to you because your in tune with the local talent. You know what I mean.

It has been about 3-4 weeks since most waterfowl left the area, I did see two geese in a field across from the sewage lagoon about 10 days ago, and a flock of mallards the week before that. An outfitter that I know was still hunting close to Red Deer, last weekend, but he has moved South now.

Another great day for skeet yesterday, but the long term forecast doesn't look great for the next couple of Sundays, it looks like our luck may have run out.

I was able to slip in another morning of trap at the Nanaimo club yesterday. There was ALOT of shooters on every range except the archery. Skeet field was full all morning, two trap fields and the rifle and handgun ranges were full of shooters. It was 10 degrees, sunny and not a whisper of a breeze. I shot 3 boxes of the Rio Evo 24 gram(7/8oz?) training loads in 7.5 shot. Talk about a really nice soft recoiling load and from the 16 yd line they worked very well. However they are stinky as heck! They smoke drifting up after I cracked the action open and removed the empty hull smelled like rotten eggs but at $122/flat tax in I'll put up with it.

We have had a few people show up with the Rio 24 and 28gram loads, because of the price, but with the Top Guns on for $45/100 , some people are buying them. I don't shoot 12 gauge for skeet, so I don't try many different 12 gauge loads. My Kent Elite/Remington STS/Winchester AA stockpile will get me through another couple of years of sporting clays, then I will see what is available.

$45/100 is about the best you’ll see for 12 ga target loads these days.

That works out to $118.13 taxed (where I live) for a Flat.

Of course the weather was great yesterday, but trap wasn't open. Today, we got rain. The Mission R&G club is up against the mountains. I'm just a beginner, but after a year and a half off, I chipped the odd one.
