Hi guys,

I recently bought a Ruger No. 1 light sporter (open sights, 38" long) in 30-06 Springfield and I totally love it. It's compact and light and powerful and ... really beautiful.

However, it is a single-shot and most folks (including me) like the idea of having one or two extra cartridges readily available ... just in case the need should arise.

I "discovered" a leatherworker's website in Montana called 7X Leather and contacted Wes Daems about making some slight adjustments to a couple of his products. No problemo ...

OK for your leather. Yes I can make the wrist cartridge holder for two 30-06 rounds with the loops fashioned to hold the shells parallel to your forearm.

Yes I can make a sling for you with 2 loops that are also parallel to the sling. Would you like the basket stamp tooling? I also do an edge-tooling design that is tasteful but very light. (I won't charge you for tooling.)

(The loops were perpendicular to the sling and parallel to the wrist-strap in his "regular" designs.)

Shipping was just $10. The stuff arrived a few days ago and is absolutely top-drawer. There are also probably Canadians doing similar work, but this is the fellow that I "found" and the crafstmanship is just super.

Posting pictures ...

I haven't figured-out the picture posting routine, but there are photos on his website.

Boomer, I checked the website and the wrist carrier looks great. I have tried a couple of wristbands before and what I found is that during a strenuous hunt ( scrambling up trails, etc.) I often lost a cartridge. This one looks like it has multiple bands holding the cartridges and they may be more effective. I'll be interested in hearing about your field trials with this one.

Seems functional ...

Hi No. 1,

I asked him to put just two loops (for 30-06) on mine, and the cartridges run parallel to the line of my forearm. I live on a ranch in the mountains and have been out a couple of times (not really thrashing) with no problem. It seems like a perfect, high-friction fit. I believe that if I was actually in a stalking situation I'd pull them out (loosen them) a bit.

Not too much money to try ...

I have hunted with a bull barrelled 25-06 for over a decade now and my experience is that one is all you need. (I don't really take long shots at game, though).

I always kept a couple shells in my pocket and reloading quickly was never really an issue. If I know a shot is coming, I will put two shells between my fingers on the forearm of the gun. It's low tech but it works.

You need to put more faith in your gun and your calibre. You are, after all, shooting the finest gun on earth!

Good point !!

Hi Glen,

I'm 60-years-old and totally agree with your "keep it simple" philosophy.

Maybe I have too much time on my hands, fussing-around with this fine little rifle and the assorted doo-dads.

It's a "guilty pleasure" ... like listening to The Carpenters ... :)

Gawd-forbid that I should move into the Sunday-morning CEO-on-the-Harley jewellry routine.
