I now live in Hamilton area - so for those in GTA area:

What would you pay per pound for a reliable source of 4895 powder if you were to pick up in Hamilton? Would you go to Hamilton to get some?

I am asking because I am having a hell of a hard time sourcing more than one pound of powder at any local store, and the shipping charges make powder by the pound very expensive (duh). Thus, I am pondering the acquisition 75kg of 4895 and paying a bulk ship rate. It's probably going to put my cost somewhere in the $40/lb range? Still working on the details so don't quote me yet.

Incidentally, I picked up some Varget yesterday at BassPro in Vaughn (it was the last one and they have zero selection) for $39.99 + tax = $45.18 so this price seems to be on par with retail. I can't seem to find anything more than a pound or two here in SW Ontario. Maybe you guys have a good local source and would scoff at powder at $40 a pound. Just thinking out loud....I wouldn't order that much unless some locals were interested in picking up 1-5+ pounds at a time.

**edit - I still need to look at the legalities of this, but gotta start somewhere. If no demand, no point in even wasting time

**in doing more research on this, the explosives regulations are talking about storage for personal use and "not for sale". I am trying to get some interpretation on how the above scenario is any different than a guy selling 2 pounds of his left over powder on CGN. Vague legalities here... might not be a good idea hah!

Let me shoot your theory to hell right now.
Maximum transportation limit of smokeless powder is 50kg per vehicle.
Maximum transportation limit per package is 4kg.
Hummason charges $40.00 for hazmat plus shipping fees.
If you buy 4895 by the pound there the price is $27.00 per 1lb.
If hey have it in 8lb jugs your price is 21.75 per lb.

Assuming you bought 32lbs of powder at $21.75/lb add about $3.00 per pound for shipping and hazmat to the majors this means your cost is about $24.75/lb if they only have singles your price ends up at $30.00/lb

I can find powder locally for that price.
When they have 8lb jugs locally I pay $25.00/lb.

For somebody to pay $40.00/lb they're desperate.

I can't comment on those shipping costs, if that's the cost, then obviously total cost comes way down........but Hummason has no 4895 powder.
