Greatest Black Rifle Innovation in the Last Decade

Well... the HK416 was pretty innovative. KAC has their E3 bolt. Lots of nano coatings... Magpul stocks and gear are pretty much industry standard. ACR, SCAR, ARX-160...

I think you made my case for me.;)

HK416 is a reworked AR15 (design dates back to the late 1950's), that uses a short stroke system (already in use in WW2, as in the SVT-40)

Not familiar with the KAC E3 bolt. This is what I Googled just now.

Doesnt seem truly new, just slightly different.

When I think of "Greatest Innovation", I'm not thinking "Lets change the shape a bit, and paint it Desert Tan, and rename it Tactical Combat Battle Awesome Assault Tactical Weapon System Rifle!!!"

I'm thinking of the technology jump from bolter to self loading.

The "new" 6.8x43mm SPC is a great round, however it is suspiciously similar to the 7x43mm round proposed back in the early '50s for use in the EM-2 bullpup rifle

Greatest innovation for the AR-15 platform would have to be the 6.5 Grendel/.264 LBC-AR cartridges and chamberings that offer true long range ballistics. Now, if only Swiss Arms would wake up and give us a rifle so chambered!

I'll throw red dot style sighting systems out there, or more specifically the proliferation of sighting units like these since the War on Terror began.

The advantages that sights like the aimpoint bring to the table are pretty amazing: compatibility with night vision, speed of engagement, low light capability, both eyes open shooting.... On more than one occasion sights like these (as well as some similar illuminated magnifying optics to a lesser extent) truly made me wonder how we soldiered without these things, specifically in the arena of low light engagement.
