This is a thread about the psychology of gun acquisitions. (and yes, that is relevant to Skeet Trap and Sporting Clay)

Going through lists of guns the other day, skipping over the usual tacticool with ghost rings, magpul furniture and extra mags....

Skip - skip - skip -...OOOOhhhh. What's this? Something that would at least raise a few eyebrows in most clay target venues. A respected brand - higher end model - been on my list.... Holy moly look at the price. It's likely worth double that!

...alarm bell rings in my head...

Ad says very good condition. Is that lint or dirt or dings and corrosion I'm seeing. Request better pics to email. Same pics.

Ask for specific pic. Communications end.

Decision is made to pass, but every time it comes back around, the greed tugs at me. Don't bite the worm. ;)

Raise your hand if sometimes, it's just a little bit hard to walk away.

Maybe that is the same seller that someone said that the he can't be bothered to send pictures . In that case I can't be bothered to send money.
I don't as a rule look at shot guns for sale, as I have a weak spot, bad enough with handguns, they take less room ( and money), sometimes.

Been there a few times. I know for a fact I avoided some bad deals, but there are still some I wonder if I missed out on a deal.

For high end firearms, I think there is a lot of merit in being cautious.

I tried hard to be the "man who shoots one gun" but that only lasted until I came across a nice Citori Sporting Clays Edition in excellent condition on the used rack. I was taking a peek at used 1100's, not over unders! I actually had the strength to walk away, but thought about it all weekend and went back first thing the week after. Been shooting that gun and getting used to it. Then came across a posting for a Silver Pigeon Sporting with only a hundred rounds through it at the gun club! That fits me even better (and fit is everything they say)! So far I've resisted that one...let's see for how long. All of this has taken place in four months.

The lust is real.

I struggle with shooting one gun as well and as a result my scores pay the price. Every year I say I will stick to using my O/U Sporter. Every year it never lasts.

When I was younger (Not that I'm all that old), I used to often enough find myself lusting for gun... More often then not, when socializing at the club (or local gun store).

It would usually go something like this
Me: Oh, shiny things!
Friend/gun store clerk: you don't have one?
Me: No, hasn't this thing been out of production since 19..
Friend/gun store clerk: Eh, I'll sell you one.
Me: Don't really need it
Friend/gun store clerk: Want to borrow it for a few rounds? I'm sure you'll like it... Heck, I'll trade for that xx

More often then not, if I said "yes" to the borrowing. There would have been a exchange of $ on our next meeting.

Now that I'm older (and somewhat wiser). The urge to spend is better curb by a self-impose buy-one/sell-one policy.
- Will this "new" gun be more enjoyable than the one I already have?

Guns are like busses (and GF)
If you miss this bus (GF) there will be another one along in a bit, and the ride might be just as good, so wait....
