I was just on the civilian marksmanship program site in the US. Apparently they're selling 30.06 Greek ammo from a warehouse full of it. Too bad we don't have access.

I fired off 3000rds of 30-06 Greek in my Garand. Nice ammo, wish we could get it also. I think I saw the same article as you. Didn't they say they just imported something like 60 million rounds? Yes, 60. Refresh my memory.
 
Yes, it's been available for a few years. I got some back in 2000 when you could still bring stuff back without problems. All you needed was to supply a faxed photocopy of your CDN drivers license and they would ship it out to you. I think the CMP just bought out the last reserve of Greek 30-06. Supposedly that's it for the Greek stockpile. Another reason I'm going to rebarrel my Garand to .308.
 
That would be nice if the ammo import criteria are made more reasonable for dealers here in Canada. It would be even better if the U.S. went back to their pre 9/11 exportation rules for ammo. I would love to be able to go over the line and bring back bulk ammo again, especially since the exchange rate is so much better than it was in the late 90's/early 2000 time period.
