Anyone have any input on the running boar barrels from green mountain? I want to fit a more accurate barrel on my 10/22 but want to keep the sporter stock cause it was the selling point of the gun for me, im a sucker for the green mountain laminate from ruger. Any reviews or experience? Or is there another option besides buying a bull barrel for the accuracy. Or is it not a big deal to file the stock to fit a bull barrel?
Any input would be appreciated guys :)

Just fyi... Im working on a budget. Wife keeps reminding me the kid can't eat a rifle barrel for some reason ;)

Fitting the stock is an easy job... just wrap a 3/4" hardwood dowel in 60 grit paper to shape, then go to 100 grit and finally 150 grit to finish then give it four or five coats of Tru Oil (simple wipe on, let dry).

However the running boar barrels are an accurate barrel, I was never completely satisfied with their balance at 22"... I always thought GM should make a shorter length... but GM is not the only company to make reverse choked barrels... I really like the VQ 16" Model... and I also got four reverse choked competition barrels made in a special product run by Mossberg, they were an 18" model that was particularly nice shooting offhand.

i have checked out the volquartsen muzzle weighted barrels, but at half the price i was leaning toward the green mountain. they are alittle more budget friendly. not looking for a competition barrel, just want to be able to nail a grouse at 60-100 yards :)

A grouses head is approximately 1"... if you want to hit it at 100 yards under hunting conditions, then you are looking for competition barrel. Your least expensive option for an accurate barrel will be a 16" .920" contour and then open the barrel channel in the stock.

! have a running boar barrel from GM put together with Dlask action and a Revolution thumbhole stock. The balance seems good to me , but I think balance is kind of personnel thing.
So you wont know until till you get to hold one. To me it does not seem muzzle heavy. I have no complaints about the accuracy of my GM barrel.
Hoyt Cannon has a point , to shoot the head off a grouse at 100 you will need the best match outfit you can lay your hands on LOL.

totally love the input, and totally not picking a fight in anyway. but ive noodled grouse at 50-60 yards with an old tired ass cooey. maybe we have bigger grouse up north :p

And I've taken out sentry sharptails at 125 yards with head shots... using LR, HMR and HM2... but the difference between "50-60" and 100 yards is huge with rimfire... and to do it consistently under hunting conditions requires some pretty good shooting.... unless your happy with a box per bird.
