Green Mountain 16" x .920" Fluted Blue Match Barrel

Do you have any experience with this bad boy?

Looking to tweak my 10/22 and this one looks pretty and has a good following.

I have the 20" SS version, it's an awesome shooter. I would imagine the 16" blued would be the same. GM makes a good product.

Yes I used to own one. It shot great and balanced the gun much better (for offhand shooting) than the 18-20 heavy barrels do. The shorter barrel does seem to make for more crack and velocity than the longer ones but it didn't adversely affect accuracy. Mine would shoot as well as my friends (20" I think) volquartsen barrel.

I have a GM 20"x.920" SS Fluted barrel. it's very well made, and very accurate. quite happy with it.

that being said I'll probably bring a 16" home with me on my next trip, as I do a lot of walking with this rifle and wouldn;t mind making it a little lighter.

RFC guys seems to show the 16's get better velocities then the 20's

I have one. Pretty damn accurate.

I've shot 1'' groups at 100 yards with pmc match rifle ammunition. It averages 1.5'' with this. At 25 yards off of sandbags it will put 10 in a penny sized group. This is the only match ammo I've found that it shoots well. Most match and target ammo doesn't shoot as good as cheap ammo.

With hunting ammo it shoots velocitors incredibly well, 1.5''- to 2'' at 100 and tight groups closer in. For cheap ammo it shoots dynapoints and federal game shok 31gr. and 40gr. reasonably well. It also likes the cheap ass and dirty remington game loads but they have reliablity issues.

All in all it's a quality barrel. The fit and finish on it is quite good and it's well worth the price.

If you are a member of the blindman gun club I can show you it in person some time.

I have a 16" blued one. Great barrel. The rifle is somewhat tricked out with a hogue stock, improved trigger and bedded - all of which contributes to nickel size groups at 50 yards.

Thanks for the help :)

Would it be possible to cut/dremel out the factory stock
to make the new bull barrel fit? A lazy Sunday project perhaps?

Where can one find a lightweight stock to fit the bull barrel? All I've been finding are bench rest heavyweights.

Green Mountain 16" x .920" Fluted Blue Match Barrel is enroute from RimfireSports :)

I've use the Hogue overmolded stock and although very nice I would like something lighter.

Just have to track down a nice lightweight stock.....I'll be needing that for squirrels and such...

Any leads or ideas?

yeah it's possible ,but not with dremel tool!:runaway:
use a metal bar or some solid alloy same size of your barrel ,wrap with sand paper 60 or 80 ,take a good breath and go :D
dont forget to put the stock on clam with right angle after several check up and sure all done take 220 or higher sandpaper for a good finish !
make sure you have the right size cause with bbl and cheap Vblock the barrel will stress or fall down:eek:

Those 16" heavies are hot. The green mountain barrels are probably your best bang for the buck... and with the dollar at .97, now is a happy time to buy. :D

Buy a 1" wood dowel and trim it down to length, wrap some sand paper around it and go to town on a factory stock. You could even put a screw or something in it to work as a chuck and put the dowel on a drill to save some time. If you had a press drill it would be easy to center something in the dowel and then use a hand drill.

When did you place your order with Rimfiresports ? I have an order for a GM barrel for a week and nothing yet. I know it will take longer but I thought they will email me when the order is shipped out.

Order Number : 20###X
Placed : 09/15/2007 01:48:53 Eastern Daylight Time

I'm giving them a few 3 weeks till I start to get tingly  It has to come through customs which may cause a delay or two

For the lightweigt stock, I sanded the beejesus out of mine and cut off the end cap, cleaned her right up. Now I'm pondering what to do with it? Stain or paint? ......think stain will win. Painting it would look goofy and cheap.

Then again there's that RIT Dye thing......
