Hello all,
I've been reading the forums for a while now and thought I'd introduce myself before posting some questions I had.
I got back into shooting about a year ago after being away from it about 20 years or so. I had a lot of shooting experience when I was a kid, shooting first with my dad and brother, then cadets, then the army for a short time.
I have always been a bit of an amateur historian and and particularly interested in the 18th and 19th centuries. About a year and a half ago I got kind of fixed on the idea that it would be fun to own and shoot something from that era and started reading up on black powder reproductions. After going to a BC Black Powder Association event and talking to a few knowledgeable old timers, I took their advice and chose a Lyman Great Plains rifle in .50 cal flintlock. I picked the flintlock largely so I would not have to bother with a PAL, or pay for courses.
Since then I have enjoyed shooting the smoke pole and decided I wanted to get a BP pistol as well. I challenged the test for the RPAL and put in my application papers. On Friday I checked my status online and was happy to read this:
Hooray!
For my first purchase I think I have settled on a Uberti 1858 Remington, likely from Shooters Choice. Though there is a very sweet looking Cz 858 at a local gun store and Lever Arms is selling cases of ammo for $160 for 1100+ rounds....drool
. So I guess I am back to being a gun nut seeing as I already have a wish list of several items.
Anyhow I just wanted to say hello, and say how much I have enjoyed reading the forums and have found them very informative.
Peter
