hello everybody, my name is Cameron (all me Cam, it's easier on the tongue and fingers!). I'm 20 with 9 years experience :)rolleyes:) and have recently started to take an interest in firearms, mostly for the sake of seeing if I'm game enough to hunt, as I do love my moose!

a bit about myself. as already mentioned, I'm 29 (well, will be in June) and live in Kamloops, BC. I've never fired anything like a gun aside from some softair & pellet co2 devices. in fact, I can't say I've heard the report of a firearm in my life. I've read the PAL manual a few times as my brother and I have intended to get our PAL certificates, but due to financial constraints, have not. my main hobbies are far from things related to firearms, being computers (I'm a geek!) and astronomy (President of the Kamloops Astronomical Society). being interested in optics, I'm eager to learn more about mounted scopes and what their pro's/con's, etc. are. I'm already fairly versed in the use of binoculars as they are my primary tool for my observing habits. :D

so now's the time for me to learn the ropes for the responsible and safe use of firearms. :)

Welcome, lived in Kamloops for years, great city. You've got a lot of really good resources there i.e. clubs, gun shops etc. make use of them

indeed we do! while I never frequented the Powder Keg, my brother and I been up to the new Wholesale Sports Outdoor Outfitter store that's recently opened many times. been a bit since I've been there, but I've been nagging them about bringing in the Leupold Yosemite series binocular!

I wish to give KUDOS to the Newbie FAQ! that did help clarify much of the legalese that boggled my mind. in fact, it wasn't until I started talking with a firearms enthusiast down in Florida & one that's near to my local area (Penticton) that has both handgun and rifles that I started getting a better and bigger picture of what was involved in Canada concerning ownership and usage as well as options (firearm wise, my friend in Florida is a precious data bank!) involved.

where on the island are you Tripalm?

being a cityboy, I haven't a clue if I have the 'guts' to actually go hunting...but, before I can confront that particular, I need to learn how to shoot, hence here I am! I dropped a post in the BC Mentor thread...but am seriously considering contacting someone at the KTSA to see if they have anything similar in place.

fortunately too, on the 26th and 27th of April, the 2008 Gun Show is in town at the MacAurthur Sports Center, so I hope to go there and make some contact with the locals and perhaps even meet that fellow from Penticton (I've met him on a computer forum and he's expressed a desire to go) I mentioned.

Welcome. I appreciate your interest in optics. There are some really interesting rifle scopes. It's not so much the lenses as the focusing systems. Look into the Sheperd, for instance. If you want to spend the money you can indeed find scopes with flat fields, but they do cost. I think you're coming to hunting fairly late in life (as hunting careers go), and you might also think about long-range shooting. Combines your interest in optics with some really phenomenal skills. Whatever, have fun with it.

Welcome to the mighty CGN, Mr Friendly!
I'm sure you will find this site to be of great help in getting you started in whatever type of shooting sport you are interested in.
And thanks for the Kudos for the Newbie FAQ thing! Always nice to get some feedback.

well Tootall, I found the Newbie FAQ very helpful in clearing up misconceptions or uncertainties I had and they were good enough to help me decide that it's not so scary to proceed with getting my PAL. :D
