I've got a S&W Victory model revolver in 38 S&W and it's all original and has the smooth grips.

This gun is great fun to shoot and I was surprised at the accuracy. I don't find these grips to be ideal for my hand though and would like something textured and bigger.

I don't plan to alter the originals but am looking for something ready-made to install.

I'm not really 'in the know' in this area. Can anybody recommend an aftermarket set that fits this revolver.

Another option would be to find a set of the checkered grips that also came on some of these revolvers, but I'm not sure if they would make much difference. Any opinions on going this route are welcome.

Is there something specific that I might put a WTB ad for in the EE?

Thanks.

Lots of options... It depends how much $ you want to trow at this project.

Something like this can be found on flea-bay for +/- $35 shipped...

You're looking for grips that will fit a K frame.

The S&W Victory model is essentially a S&W "K" frame with a square butt. So, any grips for that profile frame will work.

The Victory model usually has a layard loop secured to the butt, so that may have to be removed if you want to put on something like Pachmayr rubber "gripper" grips or grips that fit over the butt frame.

The Victory is a great piece of history. They can usually be found in reasonably nice shape & usually don't break the bank to buy then either.

I have two, one in .38 Special with a 4" barrel and this one in .38 S&W with the 5" barrel:

I really like the smaller S&W checkered grips with the clip on S&W grip adapter. I've tried rubber and various wood grips but went back to stock grips.

Yup, that would work, too. Here's a grip adaptor on a S&W Handejector .455 that I have. Works with the stock grips but gives a bit more grip to hang onto:

So:

In the run of a day I've learned at least two important things:

The Victory model is a K frame with a square butt, which I did not realize.

There is a 'clip on' grip adaptor in existance that addresses the very problem I'm having.

Any info on where one might acquire one of these adaptors would be welcomed.

I'm very pleased with the results-to-date of my first handgun request-for-info post.

Thanks for the replies and keep it coming.

Both Hogue (Mono-Grip) and Pachmayr (Gripper Decelerator) make nice rubber grips for the S&W K-frame. I have both. The Pachmayr are bigger, the Hogue are smaller.

S&W offered clip on plastic adapters (w. metal clip) that came in three sizes (S,M,L). They are getting hard to find.

Numrich Gun Parts in the states has the Pachmayr type listed on their site ($7.95) but are out of stock.
