grips on ruger single actions???

I know Hogue makes one that feels great for the Blackhawk...it just looks really ugly; in my opinion. I think I'm going to buy one for mine anyway - The heavy .45 Colt loads I've been shooting hurt my tender hands.

i'm shooting the hogue right now in my 45 colt convertible- it not only fills the hand better, but cushions the recoil as well- the only thing is they said to use the small cylinder and upper holes in the mount- i found it slipped a lot wheb i did so- i used the larger cylinder and the lower holes- if you use both, the hammer strut interferes with the cylinder and doesn't allow it to ####

I've got full wrap-a-round rubber? pachmyers on my .44 mag, and honestly can't feel much differrence in recoil, although on a hot day they are a lot more stable in my hand after a few dozen reounds than the wood. And thicker too, of course, which feels more comforting, somehow.

you put the skinny factory grips back on and you'll notice the difference- that's why i have hogues on both my blackhawk and redhawk- you really don't notice it until you get into the "heavier" loadings- try doing it with 100 rounds of somewhere near the top end of the load and a fairly short barrel

ruger SA's and the stock grip...

My ruger SA's and the stock grips just does not feel comfortable.
My pinky finger just hangs on the bottom edge of the butt with no support from the grip at all. And my hand is small to average size.
Under the butt feels the recoil with the 44 and even target loads.

I have 2 blackhawks in the 3 screw style. A 44 mag built in 1970 and a 357 mag built in 72.
The guns are great and are keepers for sure.
I need to do something about the grips.

I like the houge finger grove type on my smith N frames.

I would like to find a nice wood grip, finger grove style, with room for the whole hand. Anybody tried one?

The pinky under the grip is the way to go with the Blackhawk's. The super Blackhawk's are a little longer but there is really no room to shoot a Blackhawk without wrapping the pinky underneath.
With the wood grips it really helps to shape the grip to custom fit your hand and often some de tuning of the metal/ wood edge under the grip makes a huge difference.
For shooting lot's of heavy loads at the range with a Single Action I'd rather put a glove on my hand then one of those ugly rubber grips.
I don't mind the rubber grips look as much on a Double Action though and some of them do feel good.

I have two sets here that I got from a shop going out of business. They were on the EE a few months back.
If you are interested, send me a PM

They are Pachmayr to fit the XR3-RED frame... Blackhawk, Old army and Super Single-Six.

$10/pair

I'll be away until Thursday.
