Finally got my new forend installed... I can actually handle the recoil on this thing now!! Waaaaay better than shooting it with the factory forend :) I think I'll buy a mag-fed, and set it up the same way, if they start selling an 8" version

Reminds me of my first shotgun, a winchester defender 18" with 7 round tube. I immediatly bought a pistol grip and a pistol grip front end and I have to admit that it was the worst shotgun ever.
Recoil was pretty tough on the hands, and that was an 18" model not a 12 like in the picture. The worst were the 3" magnum loads..

Later I changed the front grip and put back the original one, made handeling the gun much better. Eventually I tossed the pistol grip and bought a full stock with pistol grip and it's WORLDS better. Recoil is much more managable, and accuracy can actually be achieved.

I will never ever again put just a pistol grip on my shotgun, it makes it pretty much useless IMO.

Believe it or not, the sights actually work well with the pistol grip... try it ;)

re the Defender - that's odd, I have one too, 18" barrel with a pistol grip and factory fore-end, and found the recoil allowed me to chamber a new round almost instantly, all in one motion - I actually prefer the Defender 'speed pump' design to the 870 design of my Grizz, but the grizz is shorter and handier. If I could get an 8" or 12" Defender, I'd sell the Grizz in a second :stirthepot2:
