I have an 8.5" Grizzly, but I'm starting to think I'd rather have a 12.5". Are they essentially identical guns in terms of quality? I notice on CanadaAmmo that the shorter gun sells for $100 more...what's up with that?

Thanks for any info...

What are you having problems with? I have an 8.5 and its functioned fairly well. I haven't had any stuck casings or jams. It is a little rough at first, but it smooths out over time.

I'm having no problems at all -- it's a darn solid piece of work. I've simply decided I'd like a magazine with greater capacity and the ability to mount longer 870 barrels. However if the 12.5" guns simply aren't as good as the 8.5"-ers I'll explore other options.

The 8.5" requires custom parts like the forend, shorter mag tube, spring and slide tube and probably a different jig for brazing the barrel ring on. The other models are higher production items costing less to build one thus less for the consumer to pay. Quality is the same old norinco hit or miss. Might need some tweaking, probably good to go and rarely needs warranty work. Not unlike any other economy brand.

Well, you can modify the tube to fit 3+1. I think the 12.5's are only 4+1. If the extra shell is important to you, then by all means get the 12.5.

Supernova is correct in the fact that the 8.5 is not nearly as compatible with an 870 as their 12.5" + shotguns.

That makes a lot of sense...thanks for the input.

I have both a 12.5 and 8.5 a realy like them both after a little clean up both work well out the box. 8.5 sometimes get hung up on Federal 00 buck shot but thats about it. 12.5 never had an issue from sulgs to target loads. For the price I think the qualty is good.

An urbino on an 8 1/2 comes in at about 27". I prefer the magpul which is about 27 1/2". Both shotguns need a damned good de burring. Mine took a fair bit of tinkering to get it working properly. I find the bead on the 8 1/2 is way too low ( the shorter the barrel the higher the bead needs to be). Mine hits at least a foot and a half high at 25 yds. I am going to play with higher beads till I get it right. For me it is just a toy, but lobbing slugs over the head of a pissed off bear might be a bit of an issue. Since for me it's just a toy, I couldn't justify the cost of a Dlask, but I have decided to convert an old wingmaster to 8 1/2 as a project, (I'm a machinist and have a spare wingmaster or 2) because the short one is a lot of fun.

I just got my 12.5, I wanted the shorter 8.5 barrel but the removable mag was a bonus for the 12.5... I would have been all over a removable mag 8.5!!!

I am yet to shoot it, cycled rough at first but a few drops of oil went a long way to making it tolerable. A paradigm shotgun spreader I would like to install, the no choke makes it a bit hard. Is the 12.5 front sight brazed on for sure?

And is there a use for the mag tube on the mag fed 12.5? Is it possible to convert to a mag AND tube fed 12ga? Buck in the mag and slugs in the tube would be awsome!

My 8.5 works great with 3" shells but 2 3/4 seems to hang up a little on feeding anyone else have this an a remedy?
Thanks- Ok figured out that if I don't cycle the action too fast it is reliable if I jack it too hard and too fast the round isn't quite lined up with the bore. I just slowed down a tad all is good now.
