Alright I delayed doing this for sometime because I've just been busy but I finally got to test out an attachment called the Grizzly Brake from Grizzly Gunworks. I've only shot with 00 Buckshot and...... it was as softer than birdshot. Not that sharp low recoil jerk of a target load but more like a soft push.

Just a disclaimer, I did this review of my own free will and I feel like an idiot for not writing this one up sooner. For the record Jeff and Grizzly Gunworks is a really nice guy to deal with. I said I'd do a review of his work on CGN just for information's sake. AND another thing I'd like to add is that the brake is a custom (they are ALL custom) and this is a 6-gilled brake compared to the standard 4-gilled brake. I wanted to see if 6-gilled would make a difference. I have only tried 00 Buckshot 2 3/4 and I WILL try 3" loads once I find a day where there aren't so many people on the shooting range.

Some other important info when ordering one, Jeff will ask you whether you want it in steel, stainless or Aluminum? You have choices. Be sure to also measure the clearance below the barrel to that the brake will fit. And yes you can pay by EMT. This is a clamp-on brake and not a threaded one. I don't know of many shotgun barrels that have threads on the end but just to let you know, I'm guessing most of us are using smooth bore tactical barrels (full?) that has no threads so be sure to mention clamp-on if ordering.

The Good
- 00 Buckshot feels softer and genter than target loads.
- REALLY PRECISE German-like machining. When you order this brake Jeff will ask for dimensions so please use a micrometer to give him exact measurements
- The materials are steel and the fit and finish is well.... see above
- Best if used in tactical situations. Would be even better if my 870 had a top rail for a dot sight but for a slug hunter, this brake would be fun. 00 Buck is hilarious and fun to destroy things again....
- Easy installation, just need to find the right hex key.

The Bad
- It's heavy..... I'd say equivalent to an unloaded 1911.
- This part is probably my fault but I forgot to tell Jeff to mill the top lower so my bead site can stick up for a better sight picture. But now I need to guess a bit, but it still is VERY accurate at short ranges.

The Ugly
- Took 2 months before it arrived
- $$$!!!! It costs around $300-350. I didn't care about the money, I wanted to play around with something and it IS a worthy investment. Once you try it out, you'll be surprised.
- It's custom so it is NOT interchangable with any other barrels. Be warned so think carefully on which shotgun to attach it too.
- I'm sure some of you are laughing so hard because I paid this price for it and I'm sure you can find a gunsmith who could do it cheaper.... bahh whatever, I have money to burn.

Conclusion? If anyone decides to get one, be sure to make sure that the top has been milled low enough for the bead site. Otherwise it's awesome.
Here's the ####.

Just to show you the muzzle and the thickness of the construction. It's heavy duty.

Markings underneath, why would I be lying???

Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you enjoyed this review because this is half an hour of my life I'll never get back...HAHAA!!

A work of art that seems pretty functional.

I'm guessing its pretty loud to the shooter and especially folks adjacent though?

No! It's not loud at all! Nothing compares to a .338 Lapua brake. The recoil is cut down considerably for 00 Buckshot (I was using Federal stuff). I just recently tried 3 inch shells and the recoil is cut down slightly but not as comfortable as buckshot. I'd consider this brake if you are into 3-gun or needing follow up shots (zombie shoot).

That looks cool, I could make that for sure and cheaper then that, why not get the aluminum one?

I stuck with the old school saying of "heavier shotgun, better recoil management". I would like to get the one that Mossberg has but... to be honest I think THAT brake belongs and should stay with a Barrett 50 cal.

That brake from Mossberg doesn't work.

Ive done numerous tests with the same ammo on my different shotguns. The recoil spring in the stock is what does most of the work. The slots in the brake are far too large to effectively induce a neutral recoil.

It does look outrageous and is always a great conversation starter at the range.
