So, I've decided to build a "tactical" shotgun - why you ask? Because I can :)

Anyway, I started with a Grizzly 870 from CanAm (great guy to deal with BTW). I know some of you will laugh at my first move - I sold the 12.5" barrel and added a 14". The 14" will allow me to add a +1 in the future, plus it also allowed me to install a full length rail from S&J Hardware (another great company to deal with!!). The 14" also has a breacher attachment, another neat looking piece of kit (I believe Arwen Ace installed it - not sure of the spelling of his name). Anyway, I also added the S&J Brobee adapter with an Ergo pistol grip from my AR, and I had a carbine buffer tube kicking around, so on it went. Next, a 6 shot Mesa Tactical side saddle went on, which is probably the nicest side saddle I have ever used. I still need the buttstock assembly, and some type of BUIS or RedDot scope, but it is a very different looking gun compared to when it arrived a short while ago!:)

I tell you man, with all the rush to go shorter and shorter, I still belive 14" is an optimal lenght. I to am working on a 14 inch project, but mine is more an old school build. If you have no objections I wil share some pictures here as we get closer to completion.

PM in coming regarding some of your bits and parts.

lol you don't read before you post eh? lol. he mentioned that he's still looking for a rear stock...

nice looking gun. will probably be going the Mesa tactical assembly myself...

Allan!

I prefer the 14" as well. It just looks a little more balanced to me.
Here's another 14 inch Grizz project that measures just over 26 1/4":)

I still need to glue in an insert so I can use a shorter bolt through the pistol grip and then sand/finish it.....

For the insert I'm going to cut a piece of the remaining buttstock and then drill it out to except a shorter bolt.
Then I'll turn it down on a lathe and glue it into the original bolt hole and blend it to the contour of the grip.

Good winter project :)

Can-down:

Thats a nice job there my friend. Is that "Teet" on the end to make 26"??

To all:

What are you thoughts on the trigger group. How are you tuning them. I thinking of replacing mine with a police group but am having a few issues with the carrier.

I've done this. Just to warn you the kick of a short barreled 12 gauge tears it all apart pretty quickly. But the gun I was using had cheaper wood as well. Hopefully yours will hold:50cal:

+1

I find that the 870(clones) look and feel rather more balanced when a full stock is used and has at least a 14" barrel. For pistol grips, knob, bird head grips, 12.5" looks ok again.

Well, I finally got the last few pieces for the shotgun. For now, I just went with a Tasco Red Dot (it was cheap and does the job somewhat OK). I also added a 6 position M4 style stock. Overall, the gun has turned out better than I expected. It is a little heavy, but handles well. The pistol grip and stock really feel nice, and the rail will come in handy once I upgrade the optic and install front and rear BUIS.

Mr. Punisher:

Looking very good!!

WRT optics, I myself have just picked up a Burris XST and while i have not mounted it, I had avery close look at it and I am actually quit impress. I think that they will be a verry good "midle of the Road" alternative for they type of shotguns.

I will see if I can find some photos so you can see what they look like.
