Grizzly stock bolt thread size?

Hey guys.
I just got my new 12 gauge 12 inch grizzly mag. Nice gun I should say!
I had already bought two different stocks for this gun - a Hogue Montecarlo style stock and a Mesa Tactical LEO stock.
Both stocks are made to fit the Remy 870. But the thread size for the bolt that screws into the receiver is way too small.
So I decided to head for the Home Depot and find a replacement bolt that would fit the thread in the receiver.
Neither metric, nor standard bolts would fit.
The M10 is too small and the M12 is too big.
The 3/8 is too small and the 1/2 is too big.

What thread size is the receiver tapped in?
Or does Canadaammo sell the bolt that fits?
I find it weird that a 870 clone would have a stock thread tapped in a different size than what the actual 870 uses.

Hmm, my Grizzlies both have the standard 870 thread size. Albeit shorter in length at approx 7" instead of the 11.5" 870.

Just to be clear here.
I am talking about the thread at the back of the receiver. The thread you would screw a stock or pistol grip into.
I went to Cabelas and none of the 870 stocks there would fit the thread on the gun.

I hope I can figure this out because the Mesa LEO stock is more expensive than the gun itself. Very nice shock absorbing M4 type collapsible stock.

You should possibly post your question in the "Black and Green Shotguns" section as well.

Guys who are into modding these shotguns are usually hanging out in that section of the forum.

I had the same problem with my Grizzly when I wanted to change it to a pistol grip. Ended up buying a M6x1x50 socket head bolt to make it work.

None of the metric bolts at Home Depot would fit it.
And I am positive M6 would be way too small.
I am going to see a machine shop. Will find the right size thread and have the stock's thread size drilled into the bolt. So I can just bolt it on without altering either the gun or the stock.

I also could not find a receiver picatiny rail that would fit. So I bought a saddle rail. And that doesn't fit either. The back bolt (closest to the shooter) fits but the smaller front one doesn't - it's about 1/16th out of aliment. So I'm going to have the machine shop drill and tap one or two screws going from the top of the rail into the receiver.

don't replace the big hex nut. get a bolt that screws in to it
Well here is an update. I was at a shop called Edmonton Nut & Bolt just an hour ago.
They have an entire warehouse full of screws and bolts. But they were not able to find anything at all that fits the thread on the receiver.

So nobody can find a bolt that fits this pesky thread. Not Home Depot, not Cabelas, and not the Nut & Bolt shop.
My next idea was to retap the receiver to the next bigger size thread. But there just isn't enough meat left on the receiver. A thread larger than this one would actually be spilling over to the outside of the plate.

I am at lost here. It appears this is some kind of Chinese mistery thread size.
I guess I'll contact CanadaAmmo and maybe they have a bolt that fits this thread?

My dominion arms is 1/4 x 28 tpi NF thread
I'm not sure but I think this is the bolt size on my two 870 aftermarket stocks. But that doesn't fit the thread in the receiver.....way bigger thread, close to 1/2 but 1/2 is just a wee bit too big and 7/16th is just a we bit too small.

If its a really wonky thread pitch that is that much oversize could you put some jb weld or epoxy of some type and then drill and tap to fit the size that is required? Thats what i would do, loctiite brand makes some wicked epoxies that are stronger than the actual steel and very easy to machine or cut the threads with a tap or die

Yeah maybe. I'll look into that.
It just aggravates me that Norinco/Dominion would sell guns without stock, presumably so the buyer can install the aftermarket one of his choice. But with no stocks on the market that actually fits it.

There are lots that fit, mine has ATI 6 position adjustable m4 style pistol grip
Maybe there are lots that fit on your gun. But not on mine.
I have two 870 aftermarket stock - a Mesa LEO M4 type stock and a Hogue Montecarlos type stock. Both of them will fit a Remy 870 just fine. But they don't fit on this gun.

When I visited Cabelas with my gun in hand, both the store clerk and I tried some of the stocks in store, including a ATI stock. None of them fit, all due to the weird thread size on the receiver.

I don't know if it'll help, but can you post pictures? I'm not thinking we can see the thread size, but maybe a solution of sorts?

are you threading in to the receiver or into the hex nut that is threaded in to the receiver?

no stock comes with a bolt to thread in to the receiver directly, they all thread in to the hex nut

I can't figure out how to send a pic here. So I'll email you one.
All I see is a threaded hole in the back of the receiver where I assumed the stock would bolt into.
That thread size appears to be a mistery size nobody has ever seen before. Not metric, not standard.
If I'm supposed to have a hex nut, I never saw that is the package.
