Ground blind considerations

Hello guys and gals!
I am looking to buy a new hunting blind to take my 12 year old out hunting with me. The blind I want to get needs to be spacious (i am a big fellow), and reasonably/potentially warm. Otherwise my boy may not have the tenacity to sit long. Lol!

I am pretty new to using ground blinds, but feel it is the best way to introduce my boy to big game hunting for deer. I usually am more mobile and walk/still hunt.

I had a look at the Ameristep brand (Element) model. When we got it home, we set it up to inspect the features. I was NOT very impressed!
There were far MANY holes in the fabric even no where near a seam line! And the material was so tight that the entrance/exit door could in NO way be closed without ripping the material.

The window covers were not the best design and really took allot of care to keep closed without gaps.
With a little water proofing spray, I am sure it would shed water decently, but just didn't like the design. So back it went to Canadian tire! Lol!

I watched a pile of ground blind videos on you tube, and am sort of thinking about the double bull primos style. The see through walls are a cool option, but I am sure rain will pour through it bad!
Now, I dont see us hunting much in the rain, so that shouldn't be much of an issue.
My biggest concern is the wind penetration. When temps get around the freezing mark and a bit lower, this could be a deal breaker for us.

I was thinking of either going with the 1/2/two wall see through design and position the 2 blind walls towards the wind source. A little heater should be able to cut a bit of the bite out of the balance of the temp.

The double bull deluxe Go model doesnt have the see through walls and all the other options. That may best out best option for our comfort.

I don't want to spent $1000.00 this year, but am willing to in order to get a more premium blind design if my son sticks with it for next year.

What are your thoughts on these ground blinds or a more suitable option?

I've only ever had the small spring steel ground blinds, which are fine for 1 person, but kind of cramped for 2 people. Mostly because i am cheap and partly they just don't fit well where i am hunting.

A friend had one of those newer see through wall types and man was it ever the way to go, no blind spots, can see everything. If i were going to spend the money on a decent blind it would be the way i went for sure.

As for being warm, most will make a difference by keeping the wind off of you, but none will really keep you warm. For that go to costco and buy a big box of hand and foot warmers. I like to put a hand warmer up each sleeve against my forearm. I find it keeps my hands warmer than holding it in my hand, plus it keeps your hands free instead of holding the hand warmer all day. Get the sticky ones for the bottom of his feet and the big XL body warmer on the inside of his coat. For a couple of bucks in hand warmers he'll be toasty warm.

I use one of these;_

Keeps my feet nice and warm.

I once bought a one man blind. It was one of those that you fold down and to open it ,it springs up. Well springing up was never the problem....but FFS it was a complete clusterphuk trying to get it back into the bag. I got so frustrated I actually dragged it out completely upright and never used it again. What a piece of junk.

I have the double bull surround view and the see-through fabric is nice but the blind is considerably smaller than the average 2 person blind IMO - something to keep in mind if you are a bigger guy.

Last year I bought the Muddy infinity 2 person (also see-through material) and it is quite a bit larger and fit me and my daughter much nicer.

The see-through fabric is awesome - I really don’t like sitting in a blind but if I have to, it’s nice to be able to see a lot more than just a few windows. As far as warmth goes, I don’t think any of them will be particularly warm. Lots of layers and even a blanket for your boy should do the trick. And the nice thing about being in a blind with a kid is they can move around a bit without you getting busted.

You just proved the theory that most fishing lures are designed to catch fishermen not fish.

I prefer the stalk and shoot over a blind. It keeps you warm and you cover a whole bunch more ground.
At 61 my stalk is on an atv!! I did do a 6km walk on the 10th and another 5km walk on the 12th. Saw no deer.
Later, on the atv, I saw 3 bears but retrieval was difficult or the bear was too young or too old.
Stick with what worked for you before. And get him practising shooting for the big moment! Remember me?
