I'll be stand hunting,likely in the rain,and a ground blind makes life a little more comfortable.What is your choice for a lightweight portable blind-preferably home made[links?]-or commercial?

Try a Google search on "pop-up blinds". There's quite a few on the market and they're pretty inexpensive (and very convenient).

Depending on your local foliage, you may need a separate camo cover. I use a "swamp grass" looking net to throw over mine to blend in to the dead grass that we tend to have in farm country here in November. Add a catalytic propane heater and you can sit comfortably in sub-zero temperature if you want.

Cabelas has tons of them prices vary though 75 ish to 300+ for a double bull. from what I have seen on hunting shows whitetails can get spooked by them unless they are brushed in, so you need to blend it in.

Why not make your own with whatever is availlable on site, just some branches and/or dead tree for a ground blind works great. That's what I did last season, sitting in a pile of dead trees/branches etc. Was able to take mister moose at 40 paces very impressive when they come that close.

I'm thinking of using some PVC pipe and fittings that are drilled for a pin to hold them in place,then using a tarp as a cover-securing it with larger diameter PVC pipe lengths with a quarter sawn out so as to fit over the pipe and locking the tarp in.That method works well with my tarp garage I use as a hunting camp.whatever I build has to be cheap,easy to erect and light weight-and be taken up and down easily for transport in a canoe

Ground blinds are great for deer but really not needed for moose during call season. Getting yourself some camo would be alot more practical. As PaulT said, blend in & you'll do fine.

I hunt 90% of the time out of an Ameristep doghouse blind.It was $80 from Wallyworld.Sets up in 10 seconds.3 big windows with shoot through screen.Love it.2 bear and 11 deer have been taken from it so far.Plenty of room for 2 hunters and all your gear.

thanks-having a place to sit and keeping the rain off is a big help when you are on a stand for a few hours at a time.Another simple thing to carry is a small piece of styrofoam to put your feet on,keeps the cold off your boots

I use a poncho
