I dont know if this has been done, or if it would even work. But I know on vehicle forums membes will get together and buy huge lots of a part at one time, and get very good deals on it because of that.

I was wondering if ammo was the same way? Like if I wanted 5k, two others wanted 5k and a few wanted a 2k and a few wanted just 1k.

Would a request for 25k rounds + qualify for dealer pricing without being a dealer?
would there be interest in this even?

(I would personally be looking for 185 gr .40 S&W)

group buys need to be approved by the board admins...

i think what you are asking is why a lot of us shop locally and build up a good customer-retailer relationship /w local gun shops... i can go in ask for a certain ammo and it will get ordered /w his larger store stock order and the retailer can give me the best price which is pretty good...

there are a few stores in edm /w pretty good prices, you should look them up

i think what he is saying is you have to ask the admins if it is ok to put togeather a group buy, using these forums.
i think this is probably to avoid troubles of scams and what not.

If you want to do an open invite to a group buy on CGN you need to clear it with the mods first. That said if you and some buddies want to get together there is nothing stopping you.

It has been done in the past here, several times, by various people. It also helps if you know a good source, then yes, volume discounts can be had. Don't expect too much, I managed below wholesale once, for an order that was to have been 25K+ rounds but the supply was messed up.
If you get to 5-10K you should be able to get 5-10% off. Get to 25K and maybe 15% off. But it depends on what ammo you are buying (ie factory or milsurp) and who your buying from.

Jeff, Evidently you are looking to do allot of shooting with your new gun, and rightfully so. If you want to save allot of money on ammo there is one word: DILLON. Get yourself a xl650 and start reloading, it will pay for itself in the first year. You will load .40 for less than 12 cents a round. That's probably just over 1/3 of what you are paying for it now.

I have looked into it, and calculated that it would take 26000 rounds to cover the cost of the basic equipment and supplies.

How many times can you reload the same case/jacket?.

I've been reloading my .45ACP and .44 Magnum brass for ages, but then again I'm shooting fairly mild loads. The key thing is to find a good source of once-fired brass.

Depends on the gun, how supported the chamber is, and how hot you load the round. Loaded to major PF, I reload them 10-12 times, although the book will tell you around 8 is recommended. I can't remember the last time I have seen one of my .40 cases split and I don't think I have ever had a malfunction due to fatigued brass. .40 brass is cheap like dirt anyway and allot of the time if it's raining or muddy, I don't even bother to pick them up. At $30 per thousand, even if you use the casings only 8 times that's only 1/3 of a cent per round.

Is there such an animal as a 185gr. .40S&W?
Standard 10 mm /.400 bullets are
155
165
180 and 200

However there are some wildcats as small as 135 and I've seen a 220 but I wouldn't load it...

185 is a common weight for a 45 caliber bullet...
