Me and a co worker decided it would be fun to go Grouse hunting this weekend for a day or two. We live in Chilliwack BC and i have done quite a bit of recreational shooting around the area and i never really run into grouse.

is there any where around here where people can suggest that they have seen or at least they are known to be? - we would hope to keep it within an hour or hour and a half drive.

thanks!

We see a few Grouse every year around the Hope/Yale area, but not as many as we see further out near Spences Bridge, Lytton, Merritt.
They seem to taste better there too. But that's probably just nostalgia talking.

i was hoping to not go as far as Merritt / Spences Bridge, although Hope Yale is definitely do-able, although as you mentioned you see a few.

would it be worth driving out there, or do you think the numbers are to slim?

thanks,

Lowermainland is kinda wet for grouse to have good chick survival through spring.
This why the areas of BC that generally have drier weather trends from march to june, generally produce higher numbers of birds.
That said, I used to cruise "bench road" on the back side of chilliwack river and some of the old logging roads and get a few.
We used to do really well way up in the area above norrish/suicide creek as well, but last I saw, that road was gated far from where the good bird hunting was. High up, south facing pebbly trails or loggin roads. Even in the LMZ, in those high up areas, you'll find better grouse numbers.
