Grouse in the mountains (pics)

Weather was fine today so late morning saw the whole family head to the mountains for a leisurely grouse hunt.

The boys and I head out.

They hang back to plink a bit with Mom.

I head off on another trail for a quick hunt.

A nice shot of the country we were hunting.

The day's bag -- five young ruffies (got a sprucie on the way home too). Did them all up tonight as Grouse Kiev except with a medly of herbs in the butter instead of just parsley.

Even got checked by the warden. I caught him using the same regs summary that I have to see if the season was actually open in this zone -- it was of course -- and he was nothing but friendly. It was good for the boys to see that someone is out there keeping an eye on things.

Nothing like a hunt with the boys...... I the hard moments that life throws at us all, they'll remember it and treasure it .... not for the grouse, but for what you gave them today.

Great idea having them 'hunt' with BB guns; gets them used to walking in the woods and learning muzzle control. I'll have to do that with the girls.
