Does anyone here have any experience with the GRS laminate stocks?

I'm thinking about building a 223 and I've always been interested in these and thinking about giving the Sporter Varmint a try.

Any downsides? I've never really asked this question before, but is a good laminate stock any less accurate than a good composite like a Manners or McMillan or even a chassis?

I have a GRS stock in the hybrid model for the Tikka T3 action. I chose it, over other models for the normal but stock contour, over the hand hook models. I use it sitting on a Protector rear rabbit bag. It came with a totally flat bottom fore end. I couldn't tell this from the GRS website. Maybe GRS could contour your stocks fore end to a more traditionally shaped varminter fore end, if you find this objectionable. Mine doesn't take a Harris bipod very well. I chose the blue/grey colour scheme. I wanted red, but was worried that it might come out looking pink or crimson, instead of a vibrant red. Mine is in 223, and shoots great un bedded. I'm quite pleased how the project turned out.

Shop around. When I was perusing I noticed price varied wildly.

Also see with Red Star Targets as I know he's either the distributor or can also get them. Shot in a competition with him this summer. The other distributor listed on GRS website had great pricing too. Forget the name of the place.

I think for the price, the benefits are pretty high. Nicely made stocks.

Just for fun here's what the build is going to look like:

Vangaurd stainless short action
Factory 2 stage trigger
GRS Sporter Varmint in brown laminate
ATRS rings and 20moa base
Jury Sendero contour .224 1:7" twist at 24"
Not sure what reamer yet(still researching that) but planning on shooting 75-90gr

Not sure on optic yet, I might try the Burris XTR II if I can find one or a Sightron Siii.

Your experience almost mirrors my own. I have a LH Varminter stock for my T3 Varmint (also grey!) and think it's a great stock. Great adjustability, well made, and shoots exceptionally well without bedding. I bought mine a few years ago from a non supporting dealer (only place available in Canada at the time), and paid about $600-$650 CDN to my door. No regrets - and lots of compliments on the stock!
