Howdy all.

Had a great weekend...picked up a new (to me) .22. Warm n' fuzzy feeling all over as, it means I've broken down some "self imposed" barriers...

i) I actually own a remington now...something my safe hasn't been visted by in decades

ii) I actually own a rifle younger than me (25 years of owning guns...).

Yep, I bought a 597. I'm always first to say I adore my 64's or, buy a Marlin. Didn't take my own advice and, they day is better for it! I read (thanks CGN and, other forums) about the 597. I have no desire to dress it up "barbie style" but, I am looking very forward to some serious testing. I did manage to cycle through 25 shots (came with high-cap mags) with both, CCI Blasers and, Federal Champions (525 pack)...50 rounds no FTF/FTE, Love it so far. Next test will be the 'ol how big a "pattern" at 50 then, 100yds....

It's the dawn of a new era fot this "fudd"....that doesn't mean I don't want your 87a!

My friend just bought a new 597 at a gun show.

Had to lube the crap out of it befor it would even fire. The bolt was so stiff it wouldn't cycle forward.

Other then that, its a great little gun. Better then my stock 10/22 hands down

That's a different experience than mine...one of the things that seperate this rifle from my .22's is how smooth and, "play-free" the bolt on it is. I think it has to do with the dual guide-rod assembly...your friend's rifle's may be installed too tigh, causing some binding (Dr. Google tells me this is a popular issue and, easily remedied by making sure they are installed "hand tight".

I have the CZ bug...being broke is the best medicine for it! lol Have been keeping an eye out for one in my "bracket" but, no joy yet...

New 597 owners should check out the stickys at rim fire central. com in the 597 section, there are a few things in there that helped me. Like how to not over tighted the guide rods so your bolt stay free and cycles nice. Good info to make life easier.

I love my 597, just wish I could get a few of those "barbie" parts you speak of!

i love my 597 TVP (pic below) to bits. so comfy, works well with decent ammo (doesn't like Win XpertHV but i don't blame it as i hate that stuff too), looks nice, and with a big scope on top it's a wicked fun toy! haven't yet decided if i wanna put on the $35 VQ hammer, since i want to check just what the stock one will be like after a few hundred rounds.

I put the VQ Hammer in mine, very nice, not that the stock one was that bad but now it reminds me of my buddys anchutz as far as the trigger feel.

I'll have to get the upgrade for the trigger. The stock one is marginal. You can shoot with it, but it requires more effort. Same thing with the stock 10/22 trigger.

Mine also is reliable and I like the dual springs for the action. The one thing I don't like though are the mags. I bought a bunch of extras and most of them won't click in. I'll have to modify them. That being said it's a decent rifle.

It's in good company. :p They've all had scopes mounted to them since this picture.
