So I received my GSG-16 from Kelly's a couple weeks ago and today was my first opportunity to get to the range.
I mounted a RioRand Tactical 4 red dot sight on it. I didn't bother trying the "iron" plastic sights.
Right off the bat I had a problem, and I knew I would as I was loading the mags. One mag took 24 rounds, the other would only fit 18.
With the 22 round mag I dumped it three times with no issues and it continued working fine the rest of the session. The other mag caused a FTF every two or three rounds, I stopped using it after one try.
I used both CCI AR Tactical and Federal Champion (525 value pack). I fired 4 mags of each and had no squibs, I had one failure to fire and it was the CCI, I rotated it and it fired. I was surprised the cheaper Federal ammo worked ok, I haven't had great luck with Federal Champion in the past.
At 25 yards, after dialing in the sight from the bench, I was able to keep the shots in an 4" group from a standing position with both brands of ammo. For me, the sight is a little low, I am going to add a quick release picatinny riser to it, which is the same setup I have on my GSG-15.
About that mag:
I took it apart when I got home and the problem was obvious.

I stretched the kink out of that spring and reassembled, it seems fine now. I actually had the same problem with a GSG-15 mag I bought, I think there's a lack of QC on these at the factory, but fortunately it was an easy fix.
I like this thing more than my GSG-15 for walking around and for firing from a standing position, it's much lighter and easier to control, although the lack of a cheek weld on the extended stock takes some getting used to. The GSG-16 bolt hold open is a big plus over the GSG-15, which has no bolt hold (except with an empty mag inserted) and is irritating to say the least when you have to clear a jam or want to run a swab through it. I do not like that the GSG-16 has no loop or receiver for a QD sling, which the GSG-15 does have. I've ordered a Magpul MS2 and a picatinny QD, the Magpul's large hook will attach to the slot in the stock, although I think that is intended to have a strap with a D-ring attached to it first, or you could attach another QD ring on the small picatinny rail that's on top of the stock.
Also I'm happy to report, you can replace those two part slot head screws that hold the lower receiver on with HK field strip push pins (Part# 200459), the same as you can on a GSG-15. Although they are less convenient on this rifle because you still need an allen wrench to remove the stock block to slide the receiver out.
