GSG 16 issues - bolt not moving with charging handle.

Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone has ever experienced this before with their GSG 16. I took it out for the first time last night. Charge the bolt back, and start firing. The bolt would hold open, but the charging handle would move freely. I'd have to move it back and forth several times before it would catch the bolt.

Anyone have any ideas? Hopefully it's an easy fix!

I went through the same thing. On last shot hold open, bring the charging handle back and in the up position. Load up and slap er down. Weird how you have to do that but it still feels cool to do. Hope that keeps feeling cool so I don't get annoyed with the feature.

Sometimes the slap doesnt disengage the bolt hold open. In that case, rack it again and then pull back a little to relieve the bolt off of the bolt catch then let it fly home.

Happens to me at least once or twice in the last few range trips

The GSG 5 / 522 conversion kit ends this issue as the design of the charging tube forces the charging handle back farther. If I didn't have one I would trim back the bolt stop leaver a bit to ensue the tension was off when operating the charging handle.

But as another CGNer noted, the conversion kit is made for a threaded barrel shroud, which the GSG-16 shroud isn't. Solves one issue, creates another.

Youza.

The tube assembly is zinc. The shroud is aluminum. Just a couple turns with pressure and the zinc threads cut into the aluminum easily for a few turns. Works just fine.

I’m having the same issue. It also intermittently doesn’t put the round into the barrel when cycling and jams bending the round. Not sure this was a good purchase....

Did you try different ammo to find a sweet spot ?

I haven’t yet. Hoping that’s the issue. The first time I loaded the magazines I wasn’t counting and they held 24 rounds. When I loaded 22 in then it cycles better with less failures to load. Was using Federal. Will try other ammo next time I take it out.

I ran a quick test last weekend, just four mags with different brands I had on hand. The Federal Lightnings were the worst, didn't cycle well at all, gave up with half a mag still loaded. Remington Golden Bullets had a few jams. The CCI Clean poly coated had one. The Winchester Wildcats that my 10/22 absolutely hates actually ran flawlessly. All mags were loaded with 24 rounds, maybe that contributed to the problems.
