I am considering getting one of these for my first handgun. I like the 1911 style, and the more I think of it, starting out with a .22 seems right.

I am wondering what owners of the guns have to say about it, where you got it. I am aware of Armco sells them.

Thanks guys!

Well Made my own S/S guide rod and then got some custom sights...

after that I sent it off to Arma Coat

But overall im happy with it

It's a very nice piece. The guide rod may be a weak point ;)

Having said that, it is still my all time favorite .22 pistol.

Never dealt with with them but have heard things.

I'm also interested and have been lurking in threads about these on several forums for a while now.

I wish there was one complete resource to finalize what works and what doesn't with these. I don't really feel that potential buyers should have to wade through dozens of forums and multiple threads on each to try and piece together what needs to be changed or if all the changes have been addressed on the current new in box guns.

It seems like there are a few versions floating around and all the pictures of bent bushings and people replacing guide rods are scaring me off. It seems like some cheap fun but before anyone that says its worth putting up with broken bits within a short period of time; base model rugers mkii/iii and browning buckmarks are in the same $350-$400 range. Makes it tough to want to buy something you already have to fix from the get-go even if it has the ever so cool 1911 look.

I would love to be the guy to make that thread but I don't know all the facts about this gun. Seems like people get pretty fast and satisfying answers from blueline on these, maybe they can make a complete comment on what if/is/was/has happened up to this point?

For now I am going to just buy my way around this one until I know for sure it is sorted.

:whistles:
:waits patiently:

I like mine. The bushing problem I believe is fixed with steel ones, but the guide rod is still a little on the weak side. The gun seems a little picky with ammo but loves thunderbolts which are the cheapest .22 I can find. Overall I think its a pretty good buy.

Own one, and for about $400 it's hard to beat. Worth every penny for this firearm. I'd change the sights though. Most people will be quite happy with the GSG 1911 in my views.

Reliability and pickiness of ammo wise how does it compare to a factory CZ Kadet (not the conversion)? I'm looking at buying a 22 pistol but want something that will not be so picky on ammo and have good long term durability. My kids are young and love to shoot so it has to last and I don't want to clear jams for them all the time....

I have both, the CZ Kadet will eat anything i feed it so far. The CZ Kadet is double the cost of a GSG 1911 though. Kadet is more accurate. The GSG 1911 is a plinker.

Great gun. Pretty much shoots everything now that it has broken in a bit. Mine came with the steel bushing and I have noticed that they have added a ramp where shoulder is so now can't hang up. I had a friend make me a stainless guide rod and changed it to prevent the possibility of it breaking. Kept old rod as a spare just in case? My friend also has one and it's his favourite to shoot too. Can't beat 500 rounds of shooting for $23.00 ? H:S:

Well, I had to take a trip into Edmonton today so I decided to see what all the fuss is over these GSG's and stop in at one of the gun shops. I picked up a GSG, stroked the slide, looked at the guide rod, looked at the scratches in the finish, immediately handed it back to the guy at the counter, and left the store. There's a reason why these GSG's are 1/2 the price of a Kadet....there's 1/2 the workmanship and metal in them. But for 400 bucks they're ok for someone just starting out or on a budget. They seem to be well liked by many....

I believe I will be picking one of these up, it will be my first pistol.

I will need to have a gun lock for it. How do I know if a gun lock (the trigger guard style) will fit it? Any suggestions, is this something I can pick up at Canadian Tire?

yep... trigger lock, cable locks can be found @ C/T......for a trigger lock spend a bit more and get the combination style (you'll thank me later) all those keys can be a pain in the a$$.......(you will eventually own more than one firearm....they breed is my experience!!:D)
