My GSG .22 1911 arrived in the mail today. I look forward to shooting it, and am otherwise completely satisfied with the quality and price point. BUT the gun also comes with a fake suppressor, or silencer. As far as I'm concerned, the screw on fake silencer is nothing more than a stupid gimmick, and had nothing to do with my purchase of the gun. What do you think? Does the fake silencer simply contribute as ammo to the anti gun crowd? & no, don't even get me started on how it might be converted to something more than a fake silencer... I got no interst in such an endeavor, and will never advocate something illegal, if nothing else a potentially dangerous mod. There is no utility to the attachment... Are gun buyers truly swayed by a FAKE add on, which is otherwise illegal (as far as I know) ?!?!?!

I was attracted to the gun because: A. I had sold my CZ .22, and no longer had a cheap .22 handgun to shoot. B. It has a 1911 frame. C. Nice combination of reasonable price point and reviews. & yes, the 3 extra mags upped my final price... but if I bring friend s to the gun range who have never shot before, nothing safer than handing them a .22 handgun.... and they will have fun, thus 3 extra mags are necessary, to keep up with the shooting. ;)

EDIT:

A friend mentioned to me, it has more to do with the TACTICOOL folks, who like the factory attachment for the sake of an attachment.

You went out of your way to pay more and buy the model that comes with the fake can....?
They do nothing for me as well, don't see the point other then the ### tacticool factor some get out it. Rather it came with a compensator then a useless fake can.
Can't really turn it into anything either....suppressors are much more complicated then you might think.

In other country you can have a real suppressor Its nice to have the threads already on there... Gsg is not just limited to Canada some places in the world its not legal to shoot with out a suppressor

I see your new gun has a rail as well so you could hang all kinds of stuff on there...but something tells me that is not going to happen.

Just my .02 worth, but fake suppressors are the firearms equivalent of fake hood scoops on your car.

Agreed, fake cans are not quite as easy to modify into real ones as people seem to think (or the RCMP would have prohibited them, and tac teams would be on the way to your house already. . . THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!! ;))

It's a gimmick that they use to help sell their product IMO, just like a lot of the zombie stuff and having the word "tactical" added on to something. Some guys want it, some don't. If you don't, then try and sell it on the EE. As for the gun itself, I look forward to hearing how she shoots for you.

Everyone knows it provides a great place for a zombie sticker

Lighten up boys, it only money, if someone wants a fake can just because they can...let's leave it at that.

Is there any practical reason to have it? No. Does it rile up the antis? Maybe a bit, but only if they're deeply ignorant. I bought my GSG without the rail and can, and I don't think I'd mount the can if I had one, but I'd not begrudge anyone who did. Is it fun, aesthetically pleasing to you, etc? Yes? Then use It. if not, throw it in the gear bag or sell it. My 887 Tactical shotgun came with a door-breaching open choke. Likely won't ever blow a door open with it, but it's kinda fun to have a pointy bit on there, so it stays until I need an actual choke.

As I see it, restricted firearms in particular are, by Canada's laws, regulated in a way that their only strictly legal use is for personal entertainment at a range. Be that casual shooting or competition, makes no real difference. So have fun, whether that means a strictly practical gun or one with a bunch of useless but amusing attachments bolted to it. Doesn't matter. Giant fake can? Check. Zombie markings? Sure. Whatever you have fun shooting (or mounting on the wall and gazing at with fondness), shoot it, be safe, and no one should have cause be offended by it.

stevebc likened them to fake hood scoops - good comparison. Not for everyone, don't really do anything, some might think it's kinda funny or stupid, but ultimately it hurts no one. So if you like 'em, have at 'er.

It's just like the pistol bayonets that guys were going on about a few months back (and earlier of course), if you've got the money and want to spend it then go right ahead. Hell I'm sure some of the things I've put on my guns seems stupid to some, and others totally agree with and understand. May as well have as much fun with your guns as you can afford.

Not to mention, if you have stuff like that on your guns you get a few more fence sitters asking about guns if they see them. Helps bring people over to our side.

Putting a fake can on your "toy" is no more ridiculous than dumping $1000.00 worth of accessories on a $269.00 .22.
That said to each their own, opinions are like but holes, everybody has one.
My .02 cents

I bought the Tactical version on purpose. I like the idea of the rail...and I like the idea of pulling out the fake can on the range in front of Fudds. I don't normally use it, but it does look badass.

Fake suppressors, 5/30 AR clips, double drum 5/100 magazines....because you can't have the real thing, in left-wing socialist countries.:canadaFlag:

So... I'm not positive on this, but doesn't the added weight from the fake suppressor add a little bit of stability to the front of the gun and increase accuracy?

So, given the choice of two similar guns, you deliberately paid more for the one with the fake suppressor so you could point out in this forum that it is a useless and ridiculous option, and so you could pull it out and be 'cool' in front of a Fudd. What is this, the grade 5 thread?

No, I paid more for it with the rail. The silencer just adds entertainment.
