GSG MP-40 first impression.

Just put a half dozen mags through mine, no failures of any kind. Definately likes the Blazer solids. Kind of pricey for a plinker, but a heck of a lot of fun.

It looks like a fun toy like the StG-44.... like the StG44 I cant see a practical use for the mp40 in 22lr other than as a face smiling plinker.... there are better options for hunting that would be lighter and probably more accurate.

I'd like to try one sometime but probably wont buy one unless I find one inexpensive and used that I can justify buying. If cheap enough I justify buying guns looking at the purchase price as a rental deposit which is returned (80-100+%) when resold. I only pay full price for the new rifles that I really want to have as keepers.

I call my semi auto 22LR's "giggle guns" or "can dancers" 'cause they make me giggle when I make cans dance with 'em!

I have a CIL 310 bolt action, a Chiappa M1 22LR, and a GSG StG44 22LR.

The CIL is the most scary accurate rifle I own (Gopher Death) and the other two just make me giggle when I unload full magazines on empty aluminum cans!!

Next on the list, a GSG MP40 22LR :d:d:d

Had mine out on the weekend for its inaugural shoot. Man it was uber fun. Felt like a kid again. For me it has no other purpose than look cool and be fun. Its accurate but it was hard for me to get a good check weld and get repeated accuracy using the sites beyond 20 yards. It would have been better if the stock angle was the same as the original. I think when a picatinny rail is available a discrete red dot will finds its way on the rifle. Nonetheless it was just fun shooting from the hip and walking the rounds into your target. Put over 600 rounds of a variety ammo, ate them all. In that 600 rounds only one failure , fired case stove piped on extraction. Which frankly is outstanding for a semi 22. My only real beef is that I need to buy more magazines and find a quicker way to reload them, my thumb was sore :)

Wasn't sure how much i would actually like shooting the mp40, but nevertheless it fit in my collection. But after shooting it I'm sold. It is a s@@ t pile of fun. And with the blazer solids has been 100% reliable.

I have to echo the above poster, I’m very impressed with it so far, the finish and build quality is real good. I’m not too fond of the plastic they used for the lower but everything else seems excellent. The stock is firm and I’m getting no wobble once extended. It also weighs a ton![/QUOTE]
The originals were also very heavy. It's kjnd of a no-win for GSG. if they make them lighter people will complain that they feel cheap. Make them heavier & people will complain they are too heavy. Personally between the two options I would opt for heavier. More controllable, less recoil (not a real issue with 22s but with recoil less is always better).

I'd opt for heavier as well

I have fired 600 rounds of CCI high velocity and I have not had one jam, or stovepipe....it shot every time. I LOVE my MP40. Amazing little gun. And now my favourite gun. The sights are not bad either. I am happy with my purchase.

Damn, I want that Thompson clone!!!

Where'd you get the kit for it? I thought the maker wouldn't ship to Canada?

Years ago there was a member on the forum who made a tommy gun kit for the 10/22
If I recall he only made a small amount of them
I bought one last year on the EE but it was expensive!
Keep an eye out one might end up for sale again

The plastic lower frowned me away. I still contemplate buying one but I think I would like to see the price drop. I had a pre-order on one but cancelled it and I'm kind of happy I did.

I saw and had the chance to try one and like it a lot.

It is pretty close to a real one. And ironically seems to fire faster as a semi than the real one does in auto.
