GSG Stg 44 mags.

So before I go in blind, any tips on disassembling these mags for cleaning?

Edit to add: Is oil a no-no in rimfire mags like it is for centerfire? I would think not as the oil would have a hard time getting to the primer, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Do they really need to be taken apart to be cleaned? I just put a bit of oil inside depress the loading tab and wipe out the excess oil..

They are a pain in heinie to put back together. The spring is way too long and you need three hands with dextrous fingers to ensure the parts stay in place.
The magazine limiter on one end and the follower with the hold open and the finger assist nubs are all loose and need to be held carefully when closing the two halves of the magazine.
I now just clean as said above, use a spritz of one shot case lube by Hornady with the spring compressed, take a patch on a pistol rod, swipe the interior as best I can.

I just use a toothbrush on the lips, and no oil.

Don't disassemble. Unless you enjoy fiddling with things under tension, likely to throw pieces across the room.

Thanks for the input everyone. Looks like I'll just have to clean them the best I can while they're still assembled.
