After spending some time with the new (for Canucks) GSG StG 44, I decided this rifle is a keeper, it fits a gap in my collection. Its the closest I'll ever get to the real deal.

Now I'm looking at different options for adding a scope. That being said I'd love to add a Zf-41 or Zf4 scope like the original, but they are pricey, that's including the reproductions. I'm leaning towards putting a VOMZ PO 3.5x20 scope on this rifle. Something compact that kinda looks the part.

GSG offers a scope mount for the GSG Stg 44 that replaces the rear sight. Looks good. The only concern I have is long eye relief, depending on what scope you use. Anyone here sporting one of these yet?

Personally I'd like to go the way of the UTG 2nd Gen HK STANAG Steel Claw Mount. Looks good IMO.
From the reviews I've read, this mount fits perfectly on the GSG StG 44.
Here's the problem... where can Canadians find one?

Anyhoo, those with the GSG Stg 44 that plan on adding optics, what are your thoughts?

UTG 2nd Gen HK STANAG Steel Claw Mount on the GSG StG44....

Oh, that looks GREAT!!!! I agree with the other mount as being too far forward and not looking quite right. That looks perfect! I want one!!! Have you contacted Irunguns to see if they can get them? Does that actually pivot out of the way to use iron sights too!?

There's a small shop in Brandon, MB, called the Wood Joynt, and he had a mount for the GSG STG-44 but I couldn't tell you which one.

those claw mounts are on ebay / amazon

The only concern is the check weld is to high.

What he said. I actually ordered in the claw mount from amazon and returned it because it would mount way too high, even with low mount scope rings.

This is the one in case you want to order it: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B002GNYCLM/

I'm going to use the OEM mount. I just ordered a scout riflescope with long eye relief, won't arrive for another week, but will try to post pics/review after I install it

Thanks for the input.

Interesting! IMO any mount on the StG 44 looks a bit high, nature of the beast. The original mount for the mp44 and StG44 sits high as well. From photos it looks like the German soldiers incorporated a lower cheek weld. Looking at original Stg44/mp44 the Zf4 with mount sits high, so does the Zf-41 in the scout position.
I'm not expecting a perfect cheek weld with this rifle. Even at 75 yards with the GSG Stg 44 irons set high on the sight ramp (I think I set it to #6 position) were high. If I can emulate something close to the original, I'll be happy. Its more about the history of this rifle for me. It will never be a bench gun, fun plinker? Absolutely!

I went ahead and ordered the UTG claw thingy, as well as the GSG scope mount.

Personally, I'm finding the factory open sight way too low. In order to get a 50yd zero I've got
it at the "05" setting. I was thinking that meant 500m. Otherwise the "01" setting would mean 10m, and that can't be right. Now I think that sight is still calibrated for the 'Kurz' cartridge, not a .22lr.
I was hoping to preserve the 'look' of the old StG 44, but I may be forced to install an optic of some sort....

I don't think I'd go with the mount it came with... you have to remove the rear sight and I'm not motivated to do that. Its only a 50-ish metre gun anyway and never meant to be a tack driver. I think I'm inclined to stick with the open sights... for now. I'd could see the HK claw mount if it were a viable option though ;)

My son has one that would work on one of this toy guns... just google "mp5 low profile mount". It screw a clamp on tight and should work well if the claw mount works? I don't think they are that expensive either... h ttp://www.ebay.ca/itm/Metal-Tactical-Low-Profile-Rail-Scope-Mount-Base-for-G3-MP5-Series-Rifle-AEG-/171741960227?hash=item27fc9e5823

don't know if this helps but I put the MP5/G3 low profile mount on Fraulein Hilda to check it out... it fits really well and is solid, but it so low that without high rings I think it would interfere with the charging handle once the scope was on.

I haven't had a chance to 0 it. Looks cool, shoots low for sure. The stg44 will eat any ammo not sure for accuracy but put around 500 rnds of diff ammo, even eats sub sonic not one failure

I was disappointed that the sight has to be removed to use the factory mount, so maybe the hk claw mount or something' I have to look up and see if a repro zf 41 (scout type) will fit/doesn't require sight removal.

And yes, the rifle shoots way low--will have to file down the front sight somehow. I've gotten 4" 5 shot groups with irons on a bench. Can't wait to try with a scope.

We've got an authentic HK claw mount at the shop that fit on my StG perfectly. It wasn't too tight, or loose, odd how that worked out!! It was a bit canted if you compare the flat surface of rail to the rear sight.

I wish the front sight had some adjustment, sliding the rear sight up to zero it seems convenient, but not really the intent of that style of rear.

PGW Steve,

The claw mount you tried, was it the quick release mount or the fixed mount? Is it designed for the HK G3 ?
Any pics?

Fits our MP5, it is the QR one.

It looks like the mount you have on the pic you posted with the '15' painted on the butt stock, but it is a 1913 rail. The claw mechanism looks the same.
