Hi all, I'm looking at trying some Cowboy Action Shooting. What are the best shops around the GTA for these guns. Where do you guys buy your rigs. Thanks.

Come on out to Range Burlington on Thursday nights 8:30-10:30. That’s when the cowboys practice. You don’t need to be a club member to attend. Try out a few guns before you buy. It’ll help you decide on what you want. We can talk then about where to look for gear

I'd love to but Thursdays are training night at my Firehall. Thanks. I have gotten out to the Barrie club the last couple of Saturdays though. A great group.

Third Sunday of the month we have matches in Burlington. Start shooting at 11. Swing by if you like. You’re right, the Barrie folks are top drawer.

It can be an expensive sport to get into (two pistols, lever-action rifle, shotgun, gun belt, costume, gunsmith work, etc.) so you may want to look at buying used from within the community. One good site for this is Ontario Single Action Shooting Federation. They have lists of matches around the province, but also a classifieds section that specializes in these types of firearms.

Typical pistols run from Pietta on the lower-priced end to the very popular Ruger Vaquero on the higher end. Rifles are often from Uberti or some other Italian replica (most popularly the 1873 Winchester) and there are very good short stroke kits for them (play with a stock rifle vs one with a kit and you'll instantly see the difference in speed). Stoeger coachguns are quite popular for double-barrel fun and are fairly cheap, even new. I'd probably stick with .357/.38 to start, as it's fairly cheap to shoot and the recoil is very low.

Thanks for the replies folks. I recently purchased a pair of almost new Vaqueros blued in 45 cal. Just waiting on thier arrival. Yup the osasf site is great and they're fine folks. I'll probably pick up a coach gun after Christmas.
