I am sure this is an easy job for most people; however, I neither have the tools, equipment, skills, nor particular incentive to ensure I don't screw this up (which I have for a lot of things - again, I am not a handy guy whatsoever).

Looking for an experienced gunsmith who can help me get this buttpad ground down properly. It came with my 1964 Winchester 101 O/U. While it is useable, it's a bit of an eyesore, so looking for a gunsmith that may be able to help to get this looking and working right (someone told me it's important for whoever works on this to get the pitch right; otherwise, there will be recoil issues.

Comments and recommendations welcome. Sure, I can check Google and the "yellow pages", but a recommendation and a reference counts a lot more than just perusing online anonymous reviews.

it's not as easy as one may think
2 ways to do it
one mount the pad on a jig that sets flat on a table that has a grinding disk
2- pad mounts to flat plate that has a long coil spring that is hung so it will be beside a grinding desk
3- mount pad on butt stock and grind to fit against the grinding disk shaping and contouring as you go
this is the most dangerous one slip and you have a gouge in the stock
40 years of recoil pad installation
just saying

Well I wouldnt be letting anyone work on my two Perazzis or my 687EELL Diamond pidgeon if he didnt know what hes doing. I agree its not something for JOE handyman. This guys not a world champion archer because hes not OCD to the max. Ive known him since he was born and a finer craftsman youll not find. If you require any info on any Browning or TC gun or high end shotgun, give him a call and he will have your answer immediately from his memory. A truly impressive hiearchy of firearms information.

it does not matter perazzi or savage a mess is a mess

Well apparently reading comprehension is not one of you strong points. What part of what Ive said were you confused with. This young man has done many alterations on guns both for myself and many members of two different gun clubs locally. One club is the biggest in Canada. But I guess cuz you fitted pads for fourty years theyres no one else capable. WRONG. PS I wouldnt own a plastic POS Savage

Wow guys, all struff said is its not a simple easy job, as opposed to the op who said its probably an easy job for most people.

I agree with struff, doing it right isnt easy. The right tools makes it much safer and easier. But getting a good fit isnt just a 5 minute job for the average guy with whats in his garage.
