Hello,

I am new to the forum and hobby, and I've recently just got my RPAL as well which is pretty exciting!

I was looking to get my IPSC black badge and try my hand at the production division. I've been practicing my fundamentals at home for the past couple months with an airsoft replica of a shadow 1 and a DA rig of belt and pouches, and now that I've got the RPAL I wanted to buy a real one and take it to the range.

The issue is I'm having a hard time finding a range in the GTA, especially one that allows shooting out of a holster. The Toronto revolver club was not accepting new members, and the maple leaf club does not allow holster shooting.

I was hoping a fellow CGNer would know of any potential options for how I can get a few hundred rounds down range before I go for my black badge.

Thanks and greatly appreciated!

Apologies if this isn't the correct sub forum for this question.

Which side of GTA are you?
Normally ranges would not allow you to holster unless you pass black badge and/or the ranges own pistol courses.

For Black Badge, normally you need to be able to shoot target 9/10 at 20 yards and have at least half to year long shooting experience. Instructors will pick the candidates they think they could pass to the course. 2000 rounds pracrice may give you some idea for that accuracy, but someone can reach that accuracy really quick.

I'm in the downtown core, but am fine driving out a reasonable distance one day a week.

The plan was to get comfortable and accurate enough to eventually take the black badge, and so wanted to become a member of a club that would allow me to shoot for practice, and eventually out of a holster after I pass.

Would love to hear any suggestions you may have!

Gagnon in Oshawa is probably the closest and better facilities than Target Sports up North.
Or go west to Burlington/Hamilton side about the same distance, you have more choice.

Sounds like I'm looking at at least 45 mins to an hour drive from downtown. Nothing really in the city.... TRC I think allows out of holster shooting... Though seems impossible to get in that one sadly.

Don't qoute me but I believe that TSC, has a holster course. When you pass, you are able to shoot from holster. Not sure of other ranges.

FOC in Ajax should be opening a range soon.
Gagnons in Oshawa
Target Sports in Gormley
Easthill in Orono

Gagnon is great. I'm the new member over there. Ppl r very nice. The range officers r knowledgeable. They r very willingy to assist a new shooter like me. The reception lady, Terry, is super. I just took a pistol 1 class in there w Mike Blade. Over all, very good experience. It is a bit long drive for me. I live in Mississauga. Price is a bit higher, on the other hand, this facility is well maintained, not crowed w non member .
Go there check it out, they will be happy to give u a tour.
Hope it helps.

Wow, dedicated Mississauga to Gagnons. Thanks for the 411 on FOC.

Not much choice ard GTA. I'm also member in Silverdale, another 1.5 hr drive. So East or west, still far for me. I'm interested to see what FOC will offer, range opens in July???

I am new to the firearms scene as of early last year and the name Silverdale rings a bell? Is this the place where they hold the GAT show? And ty for the 411 on the July date for FOC pending.

Silverdale is in Saint Ann's.

It is an outdoor range. If it is cold & windy, it will be very cold. But it has all kinds of ranges, 200 yard, shotgun, etc, more for rifles. Very different fr Gagnons.
Best one is Guelph gun club, it has indoor & outdoor but they don't take any new member even for waitlist.
