I noticed these nice looking Savage .223 10 round mags the other day on eBay, from a company called AMVI Tech LLC. They do not have an export permit to ship to Canada, but I was considering using a 3rd-party exporter to bring a few of them in.

The mags sell for $70 US each. Export fees and shipping (using a company called BorderView International) would be about $80 US to bring in 5 or so mags. The more mags I order, the lower the per-mag export fees are. I am not looking to make any money on this, just to make it more economical for me to own a couple of the mags. On top of your portion of the fees above, you would also need to pay for shipping from me to you (about $15 CDN). By the time the mags get to you, they could cost about $125 CDN each.

AMVI Tech has a custom injection-mold for the body, and uses original Savage factory mags for the feed lips. They test each mag before shipping. The owner seems like a really stand-up guy from my early discussions with him.

The description (below) of the mags is from AMVI Tech. Picture #10 shows the type of factory magazine this new one is designed to replace.

Let me know if you are interested. If enough people are, then I'll try to put together the deal.

Thanks,

Scott

Since these are not a pistol magazine they would be a prohibited device in Canada unless they were pinned to hold 5 rounds only.

I'd buy a chassis first...and use MDT poly mags. $125 for 1 of those abortions?

Buying a chassis and using AICS pattern mags will open your world up to a lot of reliable mag options.

A little more money in the long run, but you end up with a better chassis and your not gambling on mag quality. Would be frustrating to spend $$$ and time on mags only to find out they are paper weights.

You're right, I got a complete chassis {used} for about the cost of 3 of these. I got magz on sale for around $32 ea. or so..but, to each their own. Some people dont like the chasis.

Folks,

I understand these are expensive and that there may be very little interest in them. I have a Savage Model 11 that is working really well for me in a B&C M40 stock, and I don't want to mess with the combination. That's why I am looking at these.

I saw that site too. The offerings don't match a 10 profile and are pricey. I've seen a few posts on Savage Shooters and some well done YouTube vids of adapting a standard Savage mag to 10 rounds using either aluminum or polymer AR mags. I own a few of each and am going to try this in the next few weeks.
I'll post my results with pics when I get time to complete everything.
