Hi all,

What I want to do is end up with a Norinco rifle that looks like this:

I also have Springfield's muzzle brake/stabilizer (its upside down in this pic):

Because this project would involve the sight being on the brake, it needs to be indexed perfectly. Anyone done this? Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Brake

It just slides on - indexed by 3 grooves - any other adjustment is by turning the barrel in the receiver

Thanks chopper 1. I guess I should have mentioned that I want to have the barrel cut back too. This, I am told, creates the problem of accurately cutting the three locating grooves again, raises an issue about barrel diameter vs diameter of the brake (which, according to Page 267 in Coohausen's book is:
Major diameter .595" - 6, Minor diameter .5567" Max) and raises a possible issue about the quality of norinco barrels which may have inclusions that could weaken the barrel's ability to take threads. As a result, some people have advised that I just get a new barrel. I am wondering if anyone has had any luck with doing this mod with the existing barrel.

cut

Apparently the smithy at ellwood epps has done cut backs and has been recommended in the past - any threads can be applied call them -:)
